Powerful & Packs A lot of Punch for a Small Book!
This is a really good and concise book about so many things but the basic premise is about integrating our ego parts so we are no longer living in duality or "split" in ourselves. Our brains are separated into the left hemisphere and the right hemisphere. As our ego moves to the left mind: Consciousness contracts and we experience duality. As our ego moves to the right mind: Our consciousness expands and we experience non-duality. This contraction of consciousness is not caused by the left brain but rather by the ego being detached from the right brain. What does the author mean by left vs right brain?Left - Intellect, reason, fragmentation, conscious, masculine, rigidity, hierarchy, calculate and reptition are examples.Right - Feeling, intuition, wholeness, unconscious, feminine, creative, fluidity, spontaneous and sporadic are also examplesThe ego needs to be centered or as I like to say it - balanced - long before we thought - we felt - think about it - a baby in the womb isn't thinking so much as feeling - experiencing being in the womb - then we're forced out of that safe/ nurturing/feeling place and into a world that is over thinking (left hemisphere). Our egos had to adapt to this over thinking world in order to survivewe learned to suppress or pull less from our feeling (right) side.As I said in my video review; this book packs a lot of punch for how small it is. I literally just graduated with a degree in Mental Health Counseling so this book is particularly relevant and helpful to me. The concepts in it are simple yet profound - also? There are some really good points/explanations about relationships with other people. The biggest one for me was how we choose people based on how different they are from us because they are actually balancing or complimenting parts of ourselves that we are suppressing. Ever meet that boyfriend of your girlfriend? Say the girlfriend is a real "firecracker" and very bold/assertive - yet her boyfriend is not like that at all? He's quiet, calm and cool and maybe not so outgoing. What do they see in each other? Opposites attract and they balance each other out. This book is a great price. holds a lot of information, is easy to read and it does not go on and on like some books (too many words - sometimes LESS is more!). I am really glad I bought this book, I'm adding it to my colleciton of books, some of which are The Four Agreements, The Power of Now, Ask and It Is Given, The Body Keeps The Score, Mindfulness & Psychotherapy, Altered Traits, Recovery/Freedom From Our Addcitions - okay I could go on - did I mention I'm a mental health counselor?
