Battery powered lantern for emergencies/camping
Boogstore is selling an improved version of the iconic battery-powered camping lantern. 5K mA h lithium battery is charged by either USB "C" port or the automatic on-board solar panel, or a hand-crank lever.Opening box, my first surprise came with the realization that there was only one lantern in there. The Amazon ad appeared to be showing a pair, as the similar lantern ads on the same page were all multi packs. Perusing the ad again, I admit my mistake, only one lantern offered. My bad. The second surprise was that the lantern arrived dead. zero charge on the 5000 mAh battery. That didn't speak well of the QA department for Boogstore. However, the lantern appeared very well made and, once charged by the USB port, worked flawlessly. This lantern is waterproof and very bright with a dozen or so individual LED lights, and a small flashlight on the bottom edge. The 6" tall 4" wide body has 2 bails attached for hanging purposes. To use the lantern just pull the two sections apart until the desired LED output is attained. I found that this lantern could also charge my cell phone with the included C to A USB cable. All in all, an impressive upgrade for the camping lantern. I will buy more.

Versatile lantern that can provide at least 12 hours of constant run time
I have had this light for about a month now and have not charged it at all. I used it yesterday during some attic work and discovered it retained a charge very well.. I particularly like the spotlight on the bottom as it is unexpectedly versatile. Due to the offset position of the lens you can use it for precise 'along a surface' lighting or rotate the body to have an elevated flashlight when resting on a surface, it can be hung it above you for a work light, carried it by the handles for a down-facing spot light, or just held like a regular flashlight. The lantern feature works well, though I have not needed it much because the spotlight on the bottom is so useful! After reading another review which mentioned the battery I wanted to do a bit of investigation myself. The included battery is a 21700 battery which is advertised to have a maximum capacity of 5000mAh. As is typical with most batteries, the user doesn’t have access to the full capacity due to a voltage curve that gives you about 80 percent of the advertised capacity to work with. According to this curve there should be around 12-16 hours of useful power available. I took this lantern out to the workshop and disassembled it to find that the lantern lights draw just under 200mA of current. A purely mathematical look at this would show it capable of 25 hours of run time on a full charge, more realistically 20 hours would be the maximum. A constant-on test with the lantern lasted for 12 hours before the light output dropped so much that you would need to be in a completely dark environment (cave, etc) for that much light to be of any use at all (See images). I did not let it run to fully out due to the decrease in light output being so significant.I like the versatility of this light, however I also am a fan of accurate descriptions on the capabilities of the product. The solar and mechanical charging features could easily fix this light output issue given enough time so I feel deducting one star is sufficient. This is a great light, and 12+ hours of constant illumination is most likely enough for anyone’s needs. You may get more if you don't let it run constantly and this may be where the 35 hour concept comes from. Using a rechargeable light such as this will certainly reduce the number of disposable batteries you throw out which is great for the environment as well. I think this light is well worth the purchase and will serve almost anyone’s needs even given the inaccuracies in the description.

Great lantern for Emergencies
What a value for the price. This thing puts out a lot of light. It can easily be charged by electricity, solar, or hand crank. NO NEED FOR BATTERIES! Great addition to an emergency kit or camping gear.

The lamp is very bright. We plan to use this in our home during emergencies when electricity is out.

Swiss army knife of camping lanterns yet somehow still disappoints
This little thing has it all. Nice flood lantern will put out adequate light while camping. Not super bright but enough to see well in the dark. Standard beam flashlight and the ability to charge other USB devices off of it. Everything else is kind of gimmicky and not all that functional. With the specs of the built in solar panel it has the ability to add roughly 500ma of charge or 10% to the batteries if left out in direct sunlight all day. I was excited about the ability to charge with the hand crank while camping so when I unboxed it I sat with my wife to watch a show thinking I would crank on it till the battery was full but after 20 minutes my arm turned to jello and gave up and just plugged it in to charge. I'm sure it added some power but in real use your only going to use the crank if you just need a quick boost in brightness to do a quick task when the battery is low. 4 hours later The light was fully charged via USB. As light as the lantern is I was skeptical of it's 5,000ma capacity and pulled out the battery after it was fully charged to do a true capacity test. I was able to pull 1910ma from the 3.7v battery, only 38% of it's claimed capacity. I then charged the battery with a charger made for these types of batteries and was able to put 2750ma into the battery. Just over 50% of it's claimed capacity. This shows the charging system in the light is not properly designed to be able to fully charge the internal battery. I'm also put off by the exaggerated potential run time they claim for the lantern of up to 35 hours. Even if the battery had its rated capacity of 5,000ma at 3.7v the battery would only have a running capacity of 18.5watt hours 5,000ma = 5amps. 5x3.7=18.5watt hours of stored energy. If the Lantern light pulls 2.4watts it will be able to run the light for a maximum of 7.7 hours. Mine will run just under 4 hours with a full charge. My only real complaint about this light is it's dishonesty on the run time.Final thoughts: Critics aside, for $20-30 I would still probably buy this light again. Your likely not going to find one any better at this price range. For its size and how light it is. It puts out a decent amount of light. Expect 4-5 hours of run time and honestly that's plenty for camping since it would likely only be used for roughly an hour while settling in at night. Also the battery cell is commonly used and somewhat easy to replace if you like to tinker. Then you could hunt down a name brand higher capacity cell and possibly get up to 8 hours run time out of it
