Police Story [DVD]

Although Drunken Master remains the pinnacle of Chan's efforts, the police story films have skyrocketed into the stratosphere of my heart. It's really simple, when you can't stop thinking about a movie you watched 3 months ago, you know something was good. Watch all 3.

Pretty much a straight forward action comedy from the master himself. The story is a by the numbers crime story but what makes it stand out are the action scenes. Jackie really throws himself in these roles - pun intended - the stunts are insane and you find yourself wincing through a lot of it. Needless to say the man was often seriously injured during the making of these, as were a lot of the extras. So enjoy the spectacle and salute the man and his cast.

I remember the Police story films from old vhs tapes and now on dvd they are still awesome! (Not a word I use often). Jackie Chan directs as well as stars in this movie and the stunts he peforms are truly death defying and outrageous!If you watch this film for the first time you will see how much it has influenced later directors. The opening smash through the shanty town is later recreated in Bad Boys 2, the comedy, action mix is like Beverley Hills Cop and it is all done with a rough and ready feel that Bourne does exceptionally well.This dvd doesnt have any extras or an option to listen in Cantonese but it is good value.Anyone who doesnt watch asian films regularly will probably find it a bit strange going from extreme violence to really broad comedy but it is becoming more of the norm, I would compare the tone to that of the Transporter movies.Watch Jackie Chan hitch a ride on a double decker bus with an umbrella, smash through tons of glass and perform some of the best fights of his career, also, make sure you get Police Story 2 - it is even better!

Police Story is the first in "The Abuse of Maggie Cheung" trilogy. It's an action packed thrill ride with some of the best stunts, fight scenes and beautiful leading ladies. Police Story is an absolute joy to watch because it mixes great action, funny comedy and Jackie Chan's charisma with amazing results. It's a great action movie for all family to enjoy.Video and audio quality is good. There are original Cantonese audio and English dub. There some extra content which include trailers, commentary by Bey Logan, animated biography of Jackie Chan and 20 minute long interview with Jackie Chan. The commentary is VERY informative and will give all the information you want to know about film. Plus the interview with Jackie also provide some interesting facts and Jackie basically criticizes Hollywood action film making in general.Overall it's a well put together DVD. I highly recommend it.

Thsi is a good edition of a classic movie from Jackie Chan and his stunt team. The transfer is okay and the extras are good. Especielly the commentary track is good who talk about and cover many different aspects of not only the film itself, but also how Jackie Chan works. I rate it only 3 stars becasuse. its only a good no brainer action popcorn flick.

The English dubbed audio is superb for this movie, I wish Amazon would be able to include this on the movie as the English dub is widely available on the internet. Great video quality though!!One of my favourite movies to watch when I'm looking for an easy but engaging watch.

Hadn't seen this before. Was so much fun and action packed.
