Take care not to hit the edge of steel plate
This disc is effective at removing surface rust. It did not remove the mill scale on a piece of 1" thick 4140 chrome molybdenum steel plate though. If you make contact with the edge of the steel plate it can partially disintegrate the ceramic disc. Probably chalk that up to user error on my part though as it was the first time using this product.
