A thrilling read
This is the book which catapulted Robin Cook's reputation as a pioneer of the genre of medical thrillers. The book is wonderfully conceived and the plot moves at an exhilarating pace. What I specifically liked about the book was the extensive description of the atmosphere of the hospital and the medical school, complete with emotional and psychological perceptions and forces in the inter relationship between surgeons, residents, nurses, anaesthesiologists, medical students and hospital administrators. The author vividly describes the feelings and thoughts of each of those parties, as they would appear in a real world setting. For a non medical reader, such a description affords valuable insights. This was my first Robin Cook book, and I thoroughly recommend reading it.

Pages missing in the final chapter
Utterly disappointed...... After going through this acclaimed novel, it is really a pain to see that, the book has abruptly ended in the penultimate chapter, and after that it has straightaway jumped to author's note. Felt rather cheated after getting deprived of the well constructed climax. Seven pages are missing in total. By the way, I am talking about the kindle edition and it would be good to know if anyone else has faced the same problem. Amazon should be answerable for this. It does not deserve any star. The two stars are for the story plot in general.

poor quality product
The book I received was printed in 1978. The paper quality and printing quality was too bad. I don't know about mindset of others, but in my case when I spend my money to buy something I need brand new item and not at all ready to compromise on the quality. Really disappointed with this service from amazon.

Um boring!
In the era of Crime movies and series and the ease of access to it as children this book has just been a big bore to me.I can imagine my mother finding it thrilling when she was a child but it's so predictable now!

MISSING CHAPTERS
This is an incomplete book. Last one or two chapters are missing. Also, it is not as taut and believable as other thrillers.

Hasn't aged well
I'm a huge fan of Robin Cook. I first read Acceptable Risk in 2004 when my Nanna lent my her copy and I loved the book, she then lent me some more books and I continued to devour them. I'm now re-reading them as a kindle version and some of them really haven't aged well. I'm a chemist and I work in the pharmaceutical industry so I'm not confused by some of the medical speak. Unfortunately the behaviour of the woman in his novel and the reactions of the men are so dated now. I also find it incredible that an intern would act like Susan and actually think she can get away with her behaviour; missing a lecture on her first day! Really?Generally the story is good and I do remember loving this book the first time I read it, it just hasn't aged well

Not as good as the film!
Badly dated (I know it was 1976) in the attitudes to women and those in the medical profession. Cardboard characters and dialogue and too much detail given to medical procedures, not needed for the layperson.Film much more believable in making Susan Wheeler a qualified doctor. A med student would surely never be allowed to get away with what the character in the book did!

Gripping
I read this book years ago and always remembered how gripping it was.I have reread it again and it did not disappoint however I have medical knowledge. I think it would be difficult to understand otherwise.Totally gripping read though

Gripping
This was a fantastic book, which had me hooked from the start. The story was easy to follow, the characters believable and likeable and though it seems far fetched, the reality is that this could happen.Highly recommended.
