Fairview 40 XS size worked as a Frontier personal item!
Since I plan on using Frontier airlines on a regular basis and do not intend to purchase a carry-on on subsequent trips, I needed a bag that met the maximum size requirements for a personal item: 18 x 14 x 8.Although the FRAME (which is pretty solid, but can bend enough, depending if it’s not filled to max capacity) of the Fairview XS is technically measured at 19.3H X 13.8W X 8D IN (and is technically 38L), it STILL can fit underneath the seat—it takes the ENTIRE space, and thus, does not leave much foot space—but a minor sacrifice in my opinion, especially since this was the only bag I brought for enough essentials for a 3 day trip.Keep in mind, this isn’t filled at capacity: it’s maybe about 10 - 12 lbs, although if I crammed it full it can easily handle about 15 lbs, if not 20 - 25 lbs.As a (weak😆) 4’11 person, I found 15 lbs really heavy to deal with, especially during the airport check-in process, and certainly when I was under pressure to cram and take out the bag under the seat during passenger loading. I found that keeping it about 10 - 12 lbs was comfortable enough to handle on a packed flight. This bag has close to the capacity of my “international sized” Delsey wheeled hand-carry, so even though it was a challenge to cram 3 days worth of stuff into the Fairview, the design (which opens like a suitcase) helps the packing process, and felt essentially like the hand-carry without the wheels. There’s belts on the inside (and outside) of the bag to create compression and keep the bag slim, but I think the packing cubes were more helpful in keeping organized, and certainly keeping the bag from exploding, lol.As mentioned, I am 4’11 and about 105 lbs: it’s bigger than my torso! But the pack distributes the weight well, and I found it especially helpful to pack heavier on the bottom since the hips help to support more of the weight. It comes with an unpadded strap to convert the pack into a “duffel”, but it looked pretty big as a duffel and I thought may induce questioning from the agent. The price of the Fairview is pretty expensive, but given all of the cramming and abuse of the airport travel process, the quality of this pack is impressive and totally worth it. The design of the back-brace is probably why it’s expensive: it contours and braces the back really well, and helps to hold the weight against the body. There are many straps that you can adjust to help brace the weight against the body and I found the self-adjusting hip-straps and shoulder-straps were really helpful in making the pack fit my body. I found that I didn’t need to have myself entirely strapped-in during the course of the airport process however—you won’t since you’ll be constantly taking it off and putting it on during the check-in process, but I feel that this will be a pretty solid pack for a backpacking trip, or an international-sized carry-on, and I’m glad I have that option—in addition to being my to-go to bag for my visits to Colorado on Frontier.Since I could not find a decent review of the XS Fairview as it pertains to this issue of flying on Frontier specifically, I decided to write this and hope it was found useful for those who need a personal bag👍

Great Bag for Smaller/Shorter People
I got this backpack for a 2-week trip across Europe and have since returned home. Here are a few thoughts I have about this 40 size bag from actual user experience.Comfortable: I'm a smaller girl, about 5'4", hence the reason I got the 40 and not the 55. I had about 10kg+ stuffed into this bag, but it felt like maybe half that weight. Using both the waist and sternum straps significantly make carrying heavier loads much easier. I felt completely comfortable carrying this bag on long walks through airports and cities.Carry-on Friendly: I was able to carry this bag onto every plane, including the smaller airlines like Ryanair. The attached picture is from a Ryanair flight. I only checked this bag once because it was early AM and I didn't want to deal with it on the plane. I also cannot stress how much I love the back panel that hides the shoulder straps. It made putting the bag in overhead compartments much easier.Storage Capacity: For what it is, the 40 holds a lot of stuff. I made the mistake of over-packing (like I always do), and this bag still held all my junk. Clothes, flat iron, small shoes, toiletries, you name it. But I had very little room for any souvenirs or new clothes bought on this trip. I often felt regret that I didn't pick up the 55 bag instead. However, I honestly can't wait for my next trip when I can pack smarter. Consider what you will be packing and what you might be bringing back with you when you decide between bag sizes. I definitely think the 40 is sufficient for a longer backpacking trip if you pack smartly, just know you might be a little limited.Despite some small regret that I didn't get the 55 bag, I definitely love this Fairview 40. Bags like this are a great investment if you plan on backpacking anywhere, especially if those cities are known for cobblestones. It's perfect for smaller/shorter people, and it can hold a good bit of stuff while still being comfortable to wear for long durations. Just honestly consider your needs before settling on the size before you buy.

Absolute best backpack so far!
I purchased this backpack as a hands free carryon for international travel with a child. The weight distributed so well that it was easier to carry it than my regular smaller laptop backpack, despite double the weight when packed. The Osprey is a very sturdy, comfortable, and user friendly backpack. I already know we will be using this on every international flight from now on, that’s how much I loved my first transatlantic trip with it. Besides having a ton of space and well designed pockets and easy straps, it is super light weight and easy to carry it. Plus, it offers me the option to hold my 5-year-old child’s hand and still be able to roll a four-wheeler regular carryon suitcase when needed.

Estremamente consigliabile: buon viaggio!
