This arrived from the vendor standing all alone with no box around it nor in a bag to prevent leakage should it burst open during shipment. It nevertheless got here with no damage.The pump top was not held with any seal but did require turning several times to engage. The main jar had a loose plastic band over the top & main jar, but with the pump not covered requiring a seal to break to open it this product was not tamper evident sealed.There was no visible best by date anywhere to be found.Just by opening the pump port it smells like a professional barber shop product like you got dusted by a nice smelling powder.When we tried to use it — we thought it must be clogged or broken, as nothing came out. When eventually some did —with many pushes of the plunger — it was just a spurt. To get any usable amount took lots of attempts at pushing the pump lever via the top button down.Wearing it — this does give a sheen to your hair that we all found appealing. And it holds loose hairs from going rogue during the day without sticking everything down like glue.The smell travels from the heat of your head & is noticeable by others around you — they’ll ask what you are wearing (“is that a cologne?”) — so it does stand out & should get you some attention if you’re interested in that.All in all a good product, but for the lack of a real seal & all the time & energy needed to get enough out to actually use (especially at this pricey price point) I’d probably not order it again.

The Gentlemen Republic Refined Hair Gel arrives in a no-nonsense industrial-looking white plastic jar with pump. It took way longer than it should to get the pump working. No matter which way I turned the pump, I couldn't get it to release. Eventually, I finally managed to get it to release. The gel is quite thick and white. It has a very subtle scent that does not linger in the hair. It applies to damp hair easily, and true to its claims, it does not flake or feel crunchy in my hair. I like the product, but I think the packaging (the pump, specifically) could be improved. Also, $24 is a bit pricey IMO.

The gel is good. It makes my hair stick to where I want it to. I didn’t detect any poor smells and it didn’t make my head look like a shiny plastic helmet.I’m not bald (yet) but I certainly don’t have a glowing mane. I think this stuff might be just a bit of the thicker side for my hair. I had to use my wife’s stiffer brush to get my hair to compose itself.The container is quite nice and solid and looks sort of squat. The dispenser itself would not work. I tried shaking the gel to the top, side and bottom but no matter what I tried it would not dispense. It isn’t that the gel is too thick, but the dispenser wasn’t producing any vacuum. I ended up getting some of what clung to the stem of the dispenser.The product itself gets 4 stars from me but the product delivery system knocks it down a peg.

This is a large amount of product for the money! My son loves the pump jar, so easy.This holds his normal texture, fine to medium hair with ease in a side part for the entire day. It leaves no residue and dries in a semi-hard state. Nothing rock hard like gel. Smells vaguely of men’s cologne or soap, pleasant. Recommend highly.

This gel provided a stiffer hold than I thought it would. For some, that might be a good thing, but it was a little too much for my guy. His hair actually had a crunch to it which was something I wasn't expecting. The good news is that his hair held the entire day, even after wearing a hat! This gel does have a scent. It isn't overpowering and is pleasant but if you have an aversion to scent, this might not be the hair gel for you. I like the fact that you get a lot of product for a decent price. The pump dispenser is handy to have so you don't have to stick your fingers in a tub. A little goes a long way with this gel. This gel is very thick and almost has a paste-like consistency. Overall, I think with getting the product usage amount dialed in for his hair length and thickness, my guy will be happy with this gel because I think he uses too much per application, but for now, his semi-crunchy hair kind of brings me back to the 1980's.

i love the design of this. it's so much easier to pump out the right amount of gell and work it in rather than fumbling with a lid. i like the hold i get from this as well as the fact it doesn't flake and make my head look like its snowing. it has a very slight scent that's really neutral rather than a heavy scented gel that doesn't match my cologne. the gel has a slight shine to it, not like some cheap brands that give you helmet head however. given the size of the bottle and the amount needed i think this is a great value as it will last for months.
