Allied Tools 30576: 10" Fence Pliers, Multi

These don't last at all - cutting thin braided stainless steel wire for picture hangers the edge dulls very quickly - after 3 months of light usage they are completely shot. My other pair of "no name" dirt cheap pliers is still going strong after almost 4 years of use cutting the same wire, and came as part of a set for only a couple of bucks more than this single... "drop forged high carbon" sounds nice but the only place I dropped these is in the garbage.

I needed a new pairs of needle-nose pliers for model making and electronic work. These seemed to just what I needed, but sadly, they fall into the " you get what you pay for" category.Firstly, they are too stiff and the spring return does not work. They stick open and have to be forced to close. I have tried oil, etc to no avail.Secondly, the jaws do not meet at the tip!. This means that you cannot grip small items. I will be looking for a replacement soon as these pliers are rubbish for small jobs.

Info on writeup and package says "cuts wire flush to surface". This is incorrect - cutting edges are recessed about 1/16" or more, and leave whatever you are trying to cut sticking up from the surface. I kept them, rather than sent them back, but I will grind off the front of the cutters so that it will be flush to surface, as indicated. Somewhat pricey for a tool that I have to modify before it can be used for the purpose claimed.

I expected something really crappy for the price, but they are actually quite nice! The action is smooth, the teeth line up, there’s no play at all, and they fit well and feel great in my hand. I actually ordered a second pair.

Bought these to add to my fishing boat tools. While I haven’t used them yet, they seem sturdy and will do the job
