The Perfect Wingman for Artists.
Making it in the Art World from Author, Brainard Carey is the perfect "Wingman or Wingwoman" for artists. Brainard Carey's, New Approaches to Galleries, Shows, and Raising Money is more than real life artists' working experiences you can take with you. It is a complete blueprint for artists to work from for their own success. I am presently benefiting from the Abbey Ryan interview. I had been working towards a similar retirement business such as Ms. Ryan has then stalled out with a blank canvas. Thanks to Mr. Carey, and Ms. Ryan's graciousness in giving the interview, my canvas is no longer blank. I now have my business licenses, am setting up a new online business to sell my prints and cards from with two web sites, and a blog in the works. [...] will be online within weeks with a newly inspired collection of abstract art, and an eBay business to sell my originals from. Before I read Making it in the Art World I decided having a retirement income with a studio home based business was more than I wanted to deal with. After reading the book I knew I could have the business and I would make it work. It is a must have and must read for all artists trying to make it in the art world from the most informed and professional artists to the novice. Because of this I have dusted off my Juried Artist - Photographer designation from long ago and am back in business thanks to Making it in the Art World, and Author, Brainard Carey.

Making It in the Art World: New Approaches to Galleries, Shows, and Raising Money
Brainard has the innate gift of intuition, as well as his personal experience that he provides to the reader with processes that enrich and empower our lives. I encourage you to read his book and work with the workbook to propel yourself forward... It's a gift!As I first began reading Brainard's book, I was totally impressed by the way he approached a professional artist through empowering thought processes. He has an incredible way of providing tools to help you to undergo the process to make it happen for yourself as an artist without giving your power away to anyone else. He guides you into thinking outside of the box, letting go of your preconceived conditioned beliefs in regard to the difficulties of achieving your goals.I have always helped others with marketing approaches but it is so different when you must promote yourself. I have gained more confidence in how I need to present myself, the risks I will need to take and their execution.Thank you Brainard... I am excited about becoming a detective and going for it all....grm

Business intro into Art World for beginners
Very helpful insight into the business of the art world for beginners. Opens up new prspectives and approaches to marketing your art. Is a nice padded welcome into it all with little questioners for self reflection after each chapter, which I find helpful. I would recommend it for someone who already has a specific project in mind rather than someone who has vague ideas about what they want to accomplish. I found the content to be repetitive however. It is an easy read.

Practical, real, encouraging
Brainard Carey's "Art Mentor" emails were the most encouraging, relevant and practical art advice I have ever received. He is an invaluable resource when it comes to thinking beyond the canvas or the conventional. It is because of his ideas and perspective (be courageous, simply ask, develop relationships and community) that I launched a non-profit arts collective specifically targeting an ignored demographic. A year later we boast a small membership of 30 to 50 national and international dynamic females over the age of 40, we have a growing social media following and we have a familiar name within our Los Angeles arts community.I don't think I would have had the courage, or downright audacity to what I am doing (and rather successfully) had I not had access to Brainard Carey. I believe his ideas and advice are some of the best and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any artist at any level of their career. It truly is a must have for you library.

Balancing It All
Brainard Carey's guidance (news letter, mentoring and book) has helped me to refine my emerging art career and balance the never ending demands of being a professional working artist. His weekly advice gives me the courage and the tools to believe in myself and reach lofty goals. The longer I work with his ideas the better I become in every aspect of my art career. Since I began using his advice in the past year, I have been hire as a part time Lecturer in Art at a major University, significantly increased my exhibition experience, received a fellowship award, won two art awards, fulfilled a residency, gained curatorial experience and most importantly settled into a rigorous studio practice. I feel extremely grateful and fortunate to have found his generous support, thank you Brainard.

Recommended. Grad school and experienced artists, this book can be taken in stride. Ideal for undergrad or no college artists.
Solid advice....if your area works like this. In theory this book works. However our major galleries here are a bit too political and the people involved may not be available or willing. Also smaller galleries in area are clueless to what they are really aiming for and some have flopped. I guess I am saying this book is a great eye opener for undergrads or non-college going artists. Grad school and previous experience artists will take this book in stride. This book breaks down how to interact with and try to succeed within the art world. Hold your hand type of book, great for solving question marks for pupils or the artist in your life that is looking to show their work in any way. Great book, but specific locations will find road blocks by stubborn, high and mighty gallery owners here and there.

Buy this book. It’s the business.
Forget any other book on the subject of making a living from art or crafts. This is the real deal. I’ve read a few of these books, and they’re all just formulas for Instagram and Facebook marketing campaigns. This one dives deep into what works, how and why. It takes a deep dive into the reluctance of artists to market themselves and how that can in itself be used. It leaves no stone unturned in its process to get artists into the mindset of making a good living, and all the resources of how to do it. It’s the business.

One of the most valuable ebooks on the topic
I read a lot of (e)books about arts marketing in the last months. Making it in the arts world by Brainard Carey is clearly the most valuable: on more than 200 pages it covers all the relevant topics without inflating the content with blah-blah. Besides it offers (separatly downloadable) worksheets and helps you to to approach your goals structuredly. It is well layouted and easy to read. This reasonably priced ebook is absolutely worth reading and money well spent.
