Great read
Great book, about one man's eternal quest to achieve physical perfection, along with all the highs and crushing tragedies that sometimes come with it. The writing style is raw and honest, I really dig this.

If you are bitten by the iron bug, you will enjoy this.
I enjoyed Jim 's account but I am bitten by the weight lifting bug. Unlike Jim I've never used steriods so I found his honesty fascinating. Jim certainly doesn't write eloquently like Stephen Fry, but then Stephen doesn't train like Jim. So at times the book was a little laboured but the passion won through.

The truth
Finished the book in 2 days. Very enjoyable and rang true as it reflected my own, less successful journey through bodybuilding contests. Luckily I seem to have had less overall health problems than the author but now suffer from extremely bad arthritis. I wonder if it's somehow related to steroids. All aspiring Jay Cutlers should read this.

Enjoyed this as it's an honest and charming account of his life as a bodybuilder. Having just done my first contest myself, I recognise many of things he talks about. It would have been better with a bit more finesse in the writing and at times it jumped from one thing to the next without a chance for the reader to digest, but all in all I really enjoyed this. What you get is a sense of the man, the attitude and the hard work needed to be a bodybuilder...as well as it being a funny journey along the way.

Honest and funny
This is a good, honest, humorous account of one guy's grit and insane determination to reach that ever elusive state of perfection and the crazy things bodybuilders are willing to sacrifice to get there. Overcoming adversity, time after time, set back after set back. No attempt to exaggerate and no B.S.. I think this Book will appeal to seasoned competitors and aspiring bodybuilders alike. I liked Sam Fussell's book - Muscle....but I like this book even better. A great read.

An intriguing journey from skinny to ripped
Really enjoyed this from start to end. Nothing appears to get in the way of this man in his journey to the top of British bodybuilding. This is a well written account of how hard it is to be a top preforming bodybuilder. The non bodybuilder would not understand what this man needed to go through to get to this level. The book clearly shows that this is more than a sport, its a 24/7 lifestyle. It doesn't shy away from the use of drugs in the sport and is refreshingly honest. If your a participating bodybuilder or just addicted to the gym, this is definitely worth reading.
