A treasure for any Pat Metheny fan
Well what to say about this amazing song book ? It’s such a joy and priviliege to have a copy. If you love Pat Metheny and play the guitar, at whatever level, it’s a must have.Plus it really helps in practising or keeping up with sight reading ... yup, best if you can read notes on the staff for this one, although all the chords are clearly indicated.I’m so grateful for Pat making this book and also for Amazon to make it available to those of us outside the US. Thanks so much !

a fantastic resource
if you love the music of Pat Matheny and Lyle Mays, perhaps play a bit of guitar/piano yourself, this book is an astonishing resource of the 'right' chords and is a fantastic companion to the albums themselves. I lost my first well thumbed copy, so bought a replacement copy. Of course the first one turned up a week after the new one arrived but I'm still happy! It's also a great way of expanding your chordal vocabulary, some of the voicings Pat uses are unusual but once you play them in context of the rest of them, they make perfect sense. Also if you look carefully, there are lots of suggestions for chord subsitution peppered through the tunes.Of course, this book takes you to a certain point in time, there have been several albums released since and I really hope there are plans to release volume 2. I know that some of the recent works are catered for in different books but I love having all of the previous ones in one place.Thouroughly recommended.

Not just for Metheny fans
The book contains a shed load of Metheny tunes written mainly in "Busker" style (- Chords and Melody). There's some bass clef but nearly all treble clef. No "Tab" clef here and if you want note-for-note solo transcriptions then you'll need to look elsewhere. However, that's no bad thing as there is plenty here to get you into each tune. You need to have a good understanding of, or at least know how to work out chords but you wont need to be too advanced to get going and there's enough to enable you to play a satisfying interpretation of a tune just on piano. (My main intrument is guitar but I love playing these tunes on my piano). This book wont make you solo like Pat, but playing someone else's solo is only satisying to yourself - unless you have a complete band at your command. What this book will do is allow you to understand the structure of the tunes and play through them at a level that'll entertain your friends. You'll even be able to get your girlfriend/mum saying "ooh that was nice!"

The bargain of a lifetime
Wow. This has to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. The selection is massive, and contains every single song you might ever want from the Metheny/Mays stable. If you've ever tried transcribing/arranging one of Metheny's songs, this will save days. Unlike most books of this type, this has clearly been written by the band thenselves - the chords are spot on (except in a couple of places where Mays has clearly hit a duff note in the recording, and the music is what was intended...). But the best part is just sitting down and playing along. Songs like First Circle and Half-life of Absolution suddenly become even more amazing (if such a thing is possible). Anyone who enjoys the music of PMG and associated trios etc. must buy this book, and I mean now.

Good for experienced players
It would be great if there were tabs included. However it will help you to learn where are the notes on the fretboard :-)
