Should work nice but it's a lot lighter and smaller than you think based on the pictures
Gardening , breaking up the dirt and cutting rootsIt's a lot lighter and smaller than you think based on the pictures.I was thinking it would be heavy like a hatchet but it's not. more like a tomahawk weight

Worked Well For Me
Needed to dig approx. 100' narrow 6" deep trench thru crusty, rocky soil when installing line for drip irrigation system. Didn't want, or need, a heavy, full size pick. This worked perfectly...pick axe was a bonus for cutting thru roots. Very good value.

Will be fine with some modifications, but gets the job done.
The metal head does not stay put on the handle, no matter how hard you push it on (all my weight). I will drive a pin under it to hold it in place. The handle is also too small in diameter for my medium male hands. Needs to be a little fatter for better comfort and grip. I may wrap the handle with something. It functions great and is a great size for smaller work. Gets the job done in our clay soil.

LOVE this gardening tool, wish I had it years ago
LOVE this gardening tool, wish I had it years ago. Try to find something similar to the style and quality of this tool in a garden section of a big name department store - I am always on the look out for great work and time savers for gardening, but have yet to see something as great as this. My soil is full of roots and rocks; just try to use a shovel to dig a hole. With this tool, I can hack out a big enough hole in 4 to 6 whacks to plant a medium size perennial plant. Such a great work, and time saver! Boy oh boy, am I a happy gal. This tool has gone thru rocky stuff, and can break a 1" thick root in 1 to 2 whacks. It is great to have the 2 shape sides, even better. The tool does have a medium weight, makes it easy to hurl and get the power you need to get thru the tough stuff. It would work great on clay soil also. I would not be without it now. If I could I would give it more stars, or a shooting star!

Nice little tool
Like the option of removing the head for storage. The casting is rough, will have to file it down and rattle can it. Happy with it for the price

Must Have Tool
This is a very useful hand tool. Light weight to use with one hand. Great for cutting roots, loosening dirt...

Very sturdy
This is a one piece heavy duty forged steel head. No cheap welded-on blades like some. It comes disassembled and you just drop the head down the handle and give it a good tap. The handle is just a bit too long beyond the top of the head by about 1 1/2 inches which can hang you up on roots etc. you may need to take a grinder or hacksaw to it to make it flush. It’s also fairly dull when you first get it, just take a file to the edges, no big deal. My only real gripe is I wish it had slightly wider and longer blades. This is a great tool and very sturdy, you won’t bend this one.

Handy
It could be a little larger but works fine

Tough little pick axe
Smaller than expected so I've since picked up a full size one too; but this is my go-to-tool for most gardening jobs. Really tough for all but the biggest tasks and allows enough control to go rooting around in places where you may have to watch out for pipes or cables (urr unlike the large one, but that was my fault).

Works but a daft design
If you can keep the head on, it works great! Trouble is, the head has a tendency to slide down the grip in use, which is quite annoying.

Easy to use.
Needed to get some stubborn roots out of the garden, this really helped, very pleased with this item.

Top quality tool at a reasonable price.
Top quality item! This was my second purchase of one of these, due to losing my first one! The ordinal held up for over seven years of hard use and abuse. It would still be going strong if I’d not lost it.However finds it will be very pleased!

Great little tool, more useful than expected.
Didn't expect such a small mattock. Should have checked the size. However it's been really handy in the garden especially when the ground has been solid.
