First it works best on damp hair. Depending on how much hold you want is how much product you use. Like the others have said... it has a light pleasant after shave like smell that disappears once it is on your hair and dries. I'm writing this for my husband and I never smell it on his hair. This is a great gel for short and long hair. It has a good hold.
