Four Classic Albums (This Is Sinatra! / Look To Your Heart / All The Way / Sings Of Love And Things)

Four excellent compilation albums from the Capitol yearsSina
Sinatra's near ten year stint with Capitol is understandably regarded as his prime period, largely for the series of classic concept albums he recorded between 1953 and 1962. However, this double disc set reissues on CD four compilations albums of his singles, many of which were big hits at the time but also includes some lesser known tracks which it is good to have on CD after all these years. A timely reminder of why so many of us regsrd him as the greatest of all time in his field.

I don't know why we had to wait so long. I can think of some friends who would have really loved to hear these on CD. Alas. Better late than never. There are some great songs on here at an absolute bargain price.

FIFTIES SINATRA SINGLES IN FOUR ENTERTAINING ALBUMS
Sinatra's Capitol Records period was his finest with SONGS FOR SWINGIN’ LOVERS, IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS, COME FLY WITH ME and other splendid studio concept albums remaining big sellers. However, there were also albums which repackaged his singles, and although less appreciated they contain some terrific songs and performances.Avid’s four-album two-disc set is dedicated to these compilations – THIS IS SINATRA! (1956), LOOK TO YOUR HEART (1959), ALL THE WAY (1961) and SINGS OF LOVE AND THINGS (1962)All four feature an excellent overview of the singer’s output with a few lively swingers like FRENCH FOREIGN, SAME OLD SATURDAY NIGHT, I’M GONNA LIVE TILL I DIE, RIVER STAY FROM MY DOOR and OL’ MACDONALD - joined by plenty of choice ballads including many movie themes or related songs from Sinatra’s busy film career with YOUNG AT HEART, TO LOVE AND BE LOVED. ALL THE WAY and FROM HERE TO ETERNITY heading the list. In other words, this collection is a great way to fill in the gaps or addi their worth to the concept albums and it’s a wonderful all-round review of Sinatra’s singles and miscellaneous material from his Capitol tenure. Avid’s usual excellent remastering applies with the original front and back album graphics, plus dates and related studio information fill in the detail.
