When it works, it's OK - no it's not - it's crap. #AVOID
On my second startup crash and have only had it for 3 weeks. Also have not been able to get an EPG except for 1 channel. On a positive note - nice small unit.Wish I had done my research - I think there are warning signs that this product could be unstable. #DisappointedUpdate So I'm nearly 2 months into my ownership - still paying for it and it is about as reliable as a chocolate tea pot. Downgrading from 3 stars to 1.Amazon WHY are you selling this sh$te?

The new owners Geniatech are totally incompetent.
The totally incompetent new owners of EyeTV, Geniatech, are a complete joke of a company, apparently run by their inept software engineers. I bought an EyeTV Hybrid device, which is supposed to be both a TV tuner, and an S-Video / Composite Video input device. It is sold exactly as this, and therefore has an input socket for an S-Video / Composite Video adaptor which is supplied with the device. The original operating instructions explain how to use the S-Video / Composite Video video input, and the original EyeTV 3 software includes the means to use the S-Video / Composite Video input. Elgato, the manufacturer subsequently sold the company to the Chinese company Geniatech. Since the sale, Geniatech has made a complete pigs ear of support for all EyeTV devices, which is documented online on this site and the Geniatech Facebook page. Geniatech appear to have bitten off more than they can chew, and their challenged engineers clearly cannot cope. After acquiring my EyeTV Hybrid, and finding that the original 32 bit software does not work with newer 64 bit Mac operating systems, I took the plunge and bought Geniatechs EyeTV 4 software, which was supposed to work with 64 bit OS's. What I found was disappointing, as the software CLEARLY has an menu and channel options labelled S-Video and Composite Video in the same place where one can select TV input, however, Composite Video DOES NOT WORK, and just crashes the EyeTV software. So, naturally I wrote to Geniatech support to find out what was going on. After a little wasting of my time (asking me to delete and reinstall the software) support came back to me saying that their engineers claimed that "EyeTV Hybrid cannot work together with composite video devices, and we did not do this function. Therefore, when you connected EyeTV Hybrid to the composite video source, the software program stopped working." This is total BS... EyeTV Hybrid CAN work together with composite video devices, it was designed to from the outset, it was sold as being able to, it is sold WITH the cables to work with composite video source, and even their stupid software CLEARLY includes the option. SO, this is a case of Geniatech software engineers very badly leading and managing the company, and reinventing the design and abilities of the products to match their amateur abilities as developers. I therefore can only surmise that Geniatech are a complete joke of a company, and should not be trusted AT ALL. Buying Geniatech product is a gamble that one can only ever lose, given their bizarre modus operandi. I did ask them to consult their management and Directors to clarify the company position, and they totally ignored my request, so I can only conclude that I am correct that the management and Directors ARE the cerebrally challenged and amateur engineers. Do yourselves a favour, DO NOT INVEST IN ANYTHING GENIATECH, you will be robbed and lose or waste your money. There are plenty of decent tech companies out there that will treat you better.

Currently not worth the upgrade from standard definition
While you are able to receive and record Freeview HD in the UK using this device, you cannot currently export HD recordings to disk to watch on another device such as a SmartTV or games console. This is most likely a fault with the current EyeTV software and may or may not be fixed in the future. If your reason for buying an EyeTV tuner is to make recordings of TV and films to watch on a screen other than your computer, then you can save money by getting one of the standard-definition only EyeTV devices as these recordings still work fine.As another reviewer noted, this device does heat up a lot, even after only a minute or so of being plugged in.

BEWARE OF GENIATECH PRODUCTS
I would caution against buying any Geniatech EyeTV recording product, which is wholly dependent on Geniatech EyeTV software. Since acquiring the brand from Elgato in 2016 the software has steadily gone downhill to the point that it appears to be no longer supported. The migration of the 32bit software to 64bit has been an unmitigated disaster, and the latest sorry development is that the electronic program guide "EPG" in all countries has stopped working since 2nd August 2022, with no fix in sight. All of this shambles is documented in the EyeTV user forum, where you will find many unhappy customers.

Doesn’t work on Mac OS X Catalina
Amazon is still selling this product but it doesn’t work on the new Mac OS Catalina. This is because the software, Eyetv is only 32bit. There’s been numerous complaints to the company, with little or no feedback as to when the new software will be ready, if at all. I bought this a few months ago but it is currently unusable because of this. Stay clear unless you are still using Mac OS Mojave or below.

Does Not Work With MAC Catalina!
Update: This does not work with the new 64bit Mac Catalina software. I have sent 3 emails and had no reply about when or even if it will be updated. DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED.I got this as a Christmas present last year. I previously had the Elgato Hybrid TV tuner that lets you watch and record two standard def channels at once. I think the hybrid tuner is a better option over all as I only got the following stations in HDBBC 1HDBBC 2HDITV HDCHANNEL 4HDCHANNEL 5HDBBC NEWS HDAL JAZEERA HDCHANNEL 4+1HD4 SEVEN HDQVC BEAUTY HDRT HD11 channels out of all the HD channels available is a poor show. No E4 HD, no Dave HD, not even BBC4 HD. The HD channels are crisp and clear visually with improved sound as it is on my TV.I am watching on a 27 inch 5k Retina display iMac. The 1080 picture natively takes up less than a quarter of the screen. The picture is stretched to cover the whole screen and looks soft compared to native 1080 content (ripped from BluRay) but is sooooo much better than the standard definition content that I get from all the other channels.I have a rooftop aerial and I am getting 100% signal strength and quality so the lack of channels is not due to poor signal strength. I prefer the convenience of the hybrid twin tuner to the single tuner in this HD device. The software works fine and is intuitive to use. The HD picture is much better than the standard def offerings but they need to add more HD channels to make this a killer product.

Darum dennoch ***** Sterne.
