Macabre plot
Oh this idea is HORRIBLE! Imagine you're cruising in a new neighbourhood and you go in a supermarket you haven't been in before. Strolling around you casually glance at the packaged meat, only to see a plastic wrapped human foot for sale! You imagine it's a joke at first; when is the hidden Tv camera man going to pop out? Only it's not a joke - this is dreadfully real. There's something wrong with the staff too; they look 'off ' but you can't quite put your finger on why. One thing though: nobody is being allowed to leave! When some man tries to, the manager and some heavies take him into a back room. You get a glance inside but it's not an office - it looks like an operating theatre. One of the other customers approaches you and tells you that 'They' are watching you all. He has clocked that something's wrong too.Can you escape? How many will die? Who ARE these people anyway? Why are they doing this? This book has a sting in the tail too which makes for an ending that will almost leave a nasty taste in your mouth. A fantastic tale from a twisted mind!

Gave me finger burns from turning the pages too fast :)
I was eager to read this and snapped it up as soon as it was released. I was immersed from the moment that I started reading and couldn't bear to leave this book alone. Not being familiar with Michael Bray's work, I was amazed that I hadn't come across this talent before. His style reminds of a cross between Bentley Little and Edward Lee. I am surprised that he doesn't have a massive list of books because he certainly doesn't write like a novice. The story itself was dark and shocking in parts. It was made even more disturbing by the mundaneness of the setting, a supermarket. Every element of a brilliant horror story was covered in this novel, the deaths were gruesome and graphically described, an abundance of heart-stopping moments and finishing off with a 'didn't see that coming' revelation. My only criticism (and it is only a small one) was that I noticed quite a few mistakes within the story, just a few commas and words missing here and there. This did not in any way detract from the story, and with such a fantastic story, it is easy to forgive little things like this.In conclusion, Michael Bray, you are a horror genius. I am going to have to purchase Bray's collection of short stories and read them very slowly. I will be waiting eagerly for the novel planned for Spring 2013.

What would you do?
This book will leave you second guessing your judgements and survival skills. OK ok ok at first I thought the author lost his mind with the approach of human meat wrapped items in a super market the main character thinking it was a hoax .secondly the wild stranger saying there is a conspiracy no one leaves.TAKE NOTE as wild as it sounds read the whole book , this was clue! So thinking about it what would you do if you had to choose ten people to sacrifice to survive? Would you fight? What side you are on after the reveal of why are they doing it? This is no twilight saga! This is the live and death saga! After all doesn't hope taste sweet

Excellent
I loved this book! I had not read any previous version of this story and have in fact never read anything from this author before. I certainly plan to read more though, this is a really excellent book. Starts off vaguely creepy and builds on it, with plenty of weirdness, gore and crazy characters. I would definitely recommend this to any horror fans and those with a dark sense of humour. I read the film rights for this story have been optioned. I hope that a film is made as I think it would make a great film!

This book was really interesting, to say the least!!! Though not my genre, I enjoyed it non-the-less. Very interesting characters and storyline. Not a dull moment anywhere!!! And a VERY surprising ending!!!!!

beware when shopping!
This book brings the ordinary screaming into the extraordinary, and fast! a man pops into a supermarket for a last minute purchase, and thats when he notices this isnt your normal shop. obviously i dont want to give the plot away, but this is brilliantly written, will have you shuddering and screaming in your head throughout. The characters are well written and you find yourself hating some and rooting for others, and the ending left me thinking "Oh my god". Buy it, you will love it,

Good concept. Terrible ending.
Quite liked the concept of this book but the ending killed it for me. I wont waste it for future readers by going into detail but not only did I not like the way the ending went. I also felt like it ended mid page. The characters were okay and it was a good idea and setting but the ending just didn't work for me. Will probably try another by the author but felt let down at the end of this one.

food for thought.... yuck!
Im glad I waited to eat my dinner for this AND that I had already been shopping and got out alive! Can I ever enter a supermarket again.....A great moral tale with a sting, and a bite, a chop, the odd missing foot and various other nasties.Well written, the odd missing word or letter - might that might be due to formatting.Really looking forward to a novel from this author, although this was a really long novella!Brilliant
