Street Corner Talking / Hellbound Train

Tell Mama this album rocks.
This album was a great way to introduce a new era for the band. Dave Walker is a great singer, nearly as distinctive as Chris Youlden; Paul Raymond's organ-playing and songwriting seemed to invigorate Kim Simmonds; and the late Dave Bidwell was quite some drummer. Tell Mama could have been a bigger hit than it was, but part of the charm of Savoy is that they were a people's band - they certainly never committed an all-out commercial assault. The title-track is another classic. Great sounds, as the DJs of the day no doubt said...

Worth alone for Street Corner Talking
IMHO Street Corner Talking is the best album by Savoy Brown, even better than Raw Sienna or Looking In. The lineup here features also an organist, Paul Raymond, wich adds up to the sound of the band. This release includes also Hellbound Train, wich is considerably weaker than Street, but also good. The first track, "Tell Mama", is a very strong rocker and features nice slide guitar work by Kim Simmonds. The other remarkable tracks are "I Can't Get Next To You" (cover from Temptations), "All I Can Do" and "Wang Dang Doodle" (cover - Willie Dixon), the latter with astonishing vocals by Dave Walker. The other tracks are also pretty good, there isnt a filler in this album. The Hellbound Train album is, like i said before, good, but in a lower league than Street. The title track is the highlight, with some good guitar improvisation by Kim.To conclude, i strongly recommend this release, especially for the first part. The sound quality (remastered) is also very good. The only drawback is that the booklet includes no full size reproduction of the albums cover, only miniatures (but there are some decent liner notes). I believe this is a much better release than the old Polydor ones (I own Looking In and Raw Sienna by them), since the art work is much better.

Mixtape
Excellent collection of tracks. However would have been better if "Hellbound Train" was not cut short by at least a couple of minutes in order to squeeze all the tracks onto the disc. Rather like a badly done mixtape from back in the day

Immancabile
Nonostante l'ennesimo cambio di componenti nella band questo disco a mio avviso rimane uno dei più belli. Immancabile per gli amanti del rock blues alla vecchia maniera. Spedizione puntualissima come sempre.
