13 years after the first Basic Channel compilation, volume 2 comes along...
...are there any new tracks on it?Hell no! These guys are like Kraftwerk, they don't really do new tracks.What you DO get is 6 of the best from the legendary Basic Channel catalogue (they only ever released nine 12" EPs in the mid-1990s): the sound which evolved gradually - from quite stark, minimalist teutonic techno into dub reggae - in the process setting a sonic benchmark not witnessed since the days of early 4AD records or Martin Hannett productions.Unlike volume one (Basic Channel), the tracks are (thankfully) not edited down from the original 12" versions, so although there are a mere 6 tracks on here the full 70 minutes-plus CD run-time is used up (yes, that IS an average running time of over 10 mins per track, in case you were wondering).As with all compilations the drawback is that a few of my own personal favourites have been omitted, notably the mighty Q1.1/1 and Phylyps Trak II/I. Oh well, I'll just have to wait for vol. 3 - expected around 2021! Indeed there would have been a strong argument for going the whole hog and releasing their entire works as a box set.Whether you're new to BC or like me your original 12"s have seen better days this CD highlights the musical landmark that is (or was?) Basic Channel.Whatever music you're into I would strongly recommend you purchase this, or the first volume, or even both. Amazing music.

Hard deutsch funk
Solid repetitive German funk. Long icy jams that sound good loud. Don’t bother unless you have a real stereo that you exercise. Lil picnic Blue toothers ain’t getting it

CD of classics easily available on vinyl
This compilation CD features 6 masterpieces by Basic Channel. I just wanted to note that anyone who loves this music can still buy it and almost everything from basic channel/rhythm & sound/maurizio/main street/ etc. on VINYL from places like hardwax and honest jons and shops in europe, US, etc. for very reasonable prices and it is very much worth it... especially if you have two turntables and a mixer because mixing this material is irresistible! Also, Basic Channel themselves would prefer you listen to the wax. Loud.
