Checkmate Vol. 1 Paperback – October 29, 2024

I already bought this story on Lezhin quite a long time ago and I really enjoyed it and I'm glad I could find it in print. This printed one is uncensored, that is not the case on Lezhin. I was pleasantly surprised by that. I typically don't like this type of psychological genre but I pushed through and after about chapter 13 is where I really started getting into it. Volume one completes chapter 1 through 13. I know when volume two comes I'll be far less stressed out. Both these human beings have some trauma one of the characters is very self-loathing the other one thought he would take over the world, that is until he graduated from high school and trusted the wrong professor. These two have known each other since high school, they weren't friends with each other, they didn't even talk to each other but they both had their own ideas about of what life was like for them. They were completely wrong about judging each other before knowing. There is rape and coercion, not against the MCS but with side characters throughout this book so if that's a trauma for you open those pages with your eyes squinted so that way you can bypass it it's a good story that I would hate for people to miss out on it. That's what I had to do and you can tell when those pages are coming up there's definitely very good foreshadowing.

I originally read this online but I loved it so much I decided too look and see if they had a Physical copy of it. THEY DID!!! bought all 3 books!!! I'm so excited for the other 2 to come out soon! This writer is amazing and I'm so happy to be able to support such an amazing artist and story teller.PS THE BOOKS HAVE EXTRA LITTLE SCENES WE DONT GET ONLINE!! 🔞

I first read this on lezhin, when I saw that checkmate was being released on paperback I was so happy to have my own copy. If your a fan you should buy it too , I recommend it 😊.

Sadly I found this to be ok, not a full great storyline and I did not feel the characters chemistry to much. I found my self skipping a lot as it felt long and boring after a period of time. The art is ok but just felt off and lacking. It is an interesting at times and has some nice point of views on life and love, but sadly did not feel it.
