Questionable
This is quite expensive for what it is, especially as it seems a bit flimsy. One wonders if it would have been better to make a wallet or something rather than a product meant for a bank card.

Limited protection
The card seems expensive for what it is, and makes some impressive claims. As other reviewers said, there may be other (cheaper) ways to disable the magnetic strip, but I would prefer not to try it for those occasions where it may be needed (abroad etc). The template to help you attach the strip was an unnecessary faff and not successful for me - I had to replace it three times before I could get a cash machine to take my card. Whilst this may give you peace of mind at the cash machine or using pin machines at the till, it won't protect against contactless fraud, or help if your pin and original card should fall into thieves hands.

I have been reading articles regarding issues with "Skimming" for a while now after a friend of mine had a lot of money go missing from their bank account but wasn't sure if these safety products were a gimmick or not so I was hesitant to purchase them. Recently however, I got a new job that involves a lot of travel, exposing me more than before to skimming.I bought SkimProt on the advice of the friend who lost their money and so far so good. Neither of us have had any issues and I am feeling more secure than ever! As for the product itself, you don't even realize it's there and actually looks quite good on the back of my bank cards. All in all, I believe money well spent and something I'd highly recommend! :)

Overpriced; ended up peeling off the strip too often.
The Skimprot Guard is an intriguing idea a replacement magnetic strip for a debit / credit card. The replacement strip is supposed to tell devices to use the chip rather than the barcode. The kit contains a single strip and a cardboard applicator to assist you placing the strip over the strip on your credit card. You are likely already insured by your provider against fraudulent use; unless you are negligent. What that doesn't cover is the hassle of getting your accounts recovered. So skimprot gives you some peace of mind and a defense against skimming. The first 3 times i tried to use my card after applying the strip I ended up peeling the strip off as the two car parks and ATM in the motorway service station didn't know what to do and spat my card out.The Skimprot cards are massively overpriced as I write my review; if they came with 4 strips to cover a variety of cards they might make more sense; as it stands given the high cost of entry; and that a number of non bank devices don't have the ability to act on the strip's use the chip warning its hard to recommend them at the moment.

Perfect protection
After some uncertainty before making a purchase, I have since made contactless payments, chip & pin payments and ATM withdrawals with no issues at all. I can now use ATMs and other machines with confidence - particularly at my local train station platform which is a big worry due to its isolated location. The magnetic strip is now void and no device is able to 'skim' my card. I did slip when applying the sticker, but I peeled it off and re-applied with no issues at all. If you were in the situation where you needed the strip - simply peel off, make payment, and stick back on straight away. See attached photo - please note I have used yellow strips to hide the card numbers on this photo.

Unnecessary and expensive
I'm afraid that, as many other reviewers have pointed out, this is a completely pointless product that needlessly prevents your card being skimmed whilst at the same time allowing the manufacturer to skim a disproportionately large sum from your bank account to buy it.Not recommended, unless you're daft.

Strip Please
This is easy to install on the card you fear might be skimmed by an unscrupulous waiter, bartender or barista . They probably won't notice that it is there but they won't get your data or your money. But you can still sign against the card or use your pin code and everything is good. They just can't skim it - which is the quickest and easiest way for robbers to get your money.Simply peel off and place over the magnetic strip on your bank card If you do this properly you can still use the card to withdraw cash from the ATM - because of the additional chip this bit certainly worked for me. Obviously the other bit is harder to verify - does it reduce the risk of fraud on the card ? - well harder to say except my card remains fraud -free. Basically if you are worried about fraud , particularly if traveling to a country where such fraud is rife - you could do worse than give this a try.

It does the job its designed to do
In the UK, modern bank cards store the information in both the chip on the front and the magnetic strip in the back, however with the onset of Chip and Pin, the information on the magnetic strip is only used very rarely in places and countries who don't use the new system. What this does is provide a way of the card being swipped through a machine to steal the information on the strip or money from the card (called "Skimming) by blocking the details from being read in the first place. It is a slim sticker which you position exactly over the strip and then you are ready to go. If its not positioned exactly it can lead to a sticky residue arount the edge. It can be fiddly to position but once it is in place it does work, it stops the card being read. However its a one time use and if you need to use the strip you must to remove it first. From this point of view it is expensive.Another point is that it won't be much use if the card is stolen as the sticker could be removed and information taken, so although it protects your cards whilst in your possession, it is not a replacement for being aware to threats around you
