This 40 track 40 band release was one of the first compilations to successfully chronicle the Mod Revival movement of the late 70s. Alongside bigger names like Purple Hearts, Long Tall Shorty and The Crooks, the release concentrated on lesser lights of the genre, bands who made one single and disappeared! The highly detailed booklet contains info on each of the tracks and bands, many of which are ultra-rare and highly expensive collectors items

A great CD of the mod revival's second division
After the filth & Fury of Punk, the new wave was always going to bring a less angry sound to Britain's suburbs and right on cue in 1979 the mod revival delivered. With The Jam, The Chords and Secret Affair leading the way, this is where this CD comes in, 40 tracks from the skinny tie brigade. The first thing that comes across from most of the groups is that the Buzzocks have influenced them more than Paul Weller. This collection has brought most of the revivals movers and shakers together. The best cuts come from Long Tall Shorty, The Cigarettes, Small World, Squire, The Purple Hearts, Split Screens and The Crooks. For me the stand out track is "One Out All Out' by Straight Up. As with all compilations, this one would have benefited if it had included Back To Zero, The Low Numbers, Les Elite and Kidz Next Door, but that's a personal grate. 100% British Mod is a great insight into '79-80 mod scene's under belly and well worth buying.
