A good filter which can be disassembled to clean the filter element while on the road...
First, this filter arrived in a paper envelope...no box, no protection of the glass filter element. In spite of the envelope looking like someone stomped on it, I was amazed that the filter was actually intact once I opened the envelope...you might want to work on your packaging, Amazon...On the other hand, that was a good test of the durability of the filter, and it passed the first test with flying colors. The filter inlet and outlet have 8mm openings, which was the correct size for my vintage BMW project motorcycle. The filter can be completely disassembled, and the filter element looks like it has the same filter size as most generic gas filters. There are O-rings under both metal caps, and the "tempered glass" was robust enough to withstand the trauma of being sent across the country in a paper envelope, so I don't think that anything other than a hard, direct impact will destroy it.The effects of long-term exposure to gasoline are yet to be determined, but your dauntless reporter will get back to you with any developments in that regard. You can disassemble the filter housing to remove and clean the filter element, which is great when you're say, on the road, and get some sediment-laden gas, etc. I'm not sure how well these O-rings will hold up, but there was no leakage or even weeping of gas after installation. I'll probably be adding a random snugging up of the filter caps from time to time just to make sure there is a good seal on the caps. There were no directions with the filter...and agreed, it is a pretty basic component, but it might have been helpful to have at least a directional arrow for the fuel flow. One could argue either direction, but I prefer to have the gas flow to the outside of the filter, then to the inside enroute to the carb. This way I have a better view of how much sediment/rust/whatever is in the filter. If you mount the filter unit so that the flow of gas from the tank goes to the inside of the filter, then to the exterior of filter, you're getting the same level of filtration, but you would have to disassemble the filter to get a better view of contaminants in the gas. Your choice...So far, a good filter, and one that looks good on an old motor, certainly better looking than a yellowed, cracked plastic filter
