This book is very good, it covers everything you need to become a better player no matter what your current skill level is.There are loads of coloured examples that show you clearly and precisely how to set up and practice drills for every aspect of the game.I have read 5 other books on pool and this beats them all. This book covers 9 & 8 ball pool but it doesn't matter what you play because it's more about the shot than the type of game you play, it does touch on 9&8 ball strategy which in itself is very interesting. This is the best book I have read on pool by quite a margin and I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a great all round game.

not geared up for the English game
Okay, so it's a good book, and a lot of it is applicable to all cue sports, but it is very geared up towards the American style tables, bigger (slower!?) balls, bigger pockets and those markers down the side of the table that really help to gauge how to do bank (cushion) shots. Also terminology is all American, but there's a glossary in the back that helps translate pool-American to pool-English. At first skim I felt like a bit of a dunce because I didn't know most of the terms the author uses - e.g. referring to side-spin as "Side-English" etc. got a bit confusing. That said, it's a good price book, worth having in a collection, but if you want only one definitive book for the English game, this isn't it.The diagrams are all good and straight forward, and the vocab/writing style is easy enough to understand (once you reconcile the technical naming conventions). I liked the book well enough, but not enough to rate it especially highly.

Fantastic book to start playing real pool
I was a pool/snooker player on bars and pubs just for the fun of it, then I bought a pool table to my home and I wanted to started playing some real pool. This is the perfect book for it, great examples, fantastic figures and explanations, practices, etc.... It's the book that I wanted to learn correctly how to play the game!

An excellent book for the beginner
As a pro player, I am always on the lookout for aids to improve my game. This is one of the books I have purchased and treasured. Most of the content is quite basic, but it is amazing how much I have neglected in my game. This basic information becomes so important if you want to be a good player. I really enjoyed the fact that anyone can take a short cut into the game. Most pros learn from trial and error. The most useful part of this book was the defining physics of pool, from the bounce of the table to the speed of a break. This has increased my breaking skill from being lucky just to pot 1 ball on the break to potting 3 consistently. The only thing missing from this book is the ommision of the diamond system which is given in other books such as Byrne's Advanced Technique in Pool and Billiards. This book is perfect for the beginer to novice and is highly recommended by myself.
