Great product - really works!
This is a great product! It really works well. My son has been making good progress with the balance bike, and this was a very natural next step. He immediately started pedaling and although he was wobbly, using the Steady Rider gave him confidence and prevented any falls. He really enjoyed it and wanted to keep riding as long as I was willing, even saying "I want to ride this forever!" (Seriously). Even in the 30 minutes we spent, I could tell he was improving with being able to balance on his own. Definitely seems like this will lead to riding unaided much faster than using training wheels, which seem like a crutch. The product is very easy to install (took me less than 10 minutes from getting it out of the package to installation on the bike) and is very durable. Definitely recommend!

Good concept, wooden handle not hardwood
The wooden handle this comes with is too soft/flexible. The brackets/clamps are beefy, and overall this kit is well made. However, they really dig into the wood handle and the wood permanently compresses (if you don't tighten it enough the handle will wiggle and slip out). However, the clamps keep you from adjusting the seat height, and on one of our bikes it doesn't extend far enough back to clear the seat. Not sure I would buy again. If you do, recommend a hardwood broom handle, e.g. oak or ash.

Not for older children
Apparently this product is meant for toddlers. My son is almost 10 but has a degenerative muscular neuropathy so it is difficult for him to stay balanced. I bought this product hoping that I could get out there and help him ride his bike for more than a few minutes at a time. Unfortunately the pole snapped like a twig within 10 minutes of use. I put what remained back on and we attempted to ride for another 10 - 15 minutes. It snapped again. This cycle has repeated five times. One more break and I don't even think the pole will be long enough to be effective any more. I gave the product one star based on my experience but it may work just fine for a lighter child.

Bye-bye training wheels!
Tried the training wheel method, and my daughter couldn't seem to get past them. She is almost four, so we want her to get away from using training wheels. She would just lean one way or the other on the wheels, and refused to try to balance upright, even when I tried to explain why balance was a good thing. After I installed the Steady Rider (which took 5 minutes, and was very simple to do!) and removed the training wheels she was actually very eager to get on her bike and try it out! I think she really likes the handle sticking up from behind her seat, she says it is like her little sister's bike (a trike with handles for parents to push and steer). The first time we tried out the Steady Rider I could already tell my daughter was working on balance. I kept a loose grip on the handle so that the bike would move naturally left and right as she pedaled, but not so loose I couldn't quickly tighten my grip to prevent her from wiping out. My first impression is that the Steady Rider will be very helpful in getting her to balance all on her own, I'll follow up on this review when she finally does it! Got the product on 9/12/2017 for my almost-four-year-old daughter.Follow up, It is 1/8/2018 and my daughter can now ride upright without help! She is able to stop just fine, but starting is still a bit challenging for her. All told, the Steady Rider helped my daughter get the balance she needed in less than 4 months! Usage was casual, once every week or two, for less than 30 minutes per attempt.Great product!

Room for Improvement
I don't like that I have to carry around a ratchet set to remove this bar so as to fit the bike in the car. If it came with large-ish wingnuts instead of regular nuts, it would be an improvement to the design.

Item not as pictured in first picture
This is a wooden dowel and two brackets with some washers. From the first picture this looks like a metal handle. Not what I thought it was so I am sending this back.

Solves the back pain issue!
My daughter (3.5yrs old) got her bike with training wheels but she wasn't quite strong enough to pedal. That meant bending down to push her a little. I didn't notice at the time, but afterwards I was treated to a few days of back pain. Amazon found me this as a solution - it works!! No back pain now. I can push her along completely upright and she has more of a feeling of independence. When she's a bit bigger I will remove the training wheels and use it more as intended.Absolutely would buy again.

Great for helping a beginner biker.
Works great but a little flimsy but does the job.
