A fantastic example of a well thought out and very informative guide to some stunning walks across the UK
A fantastic example of a well thought out and very informative guide to some stunning walks across the UK. The colour coded sections of the book offer an amazingly easy index to turn straight to the desired pages and the pictures are inspirational. The maps feel like they were designed by an actual adventurer and clearly show routes up the 3 Peaks (as the title suggests) and really inspired me to get out and explore more of the UK. Having read previous Walking Guides I can honestly say this is one of the best editions I have read and recommend it to anyone considering taking on any outdoor pursuit.

Useful content, woefully typeset
4 stars for the author, 1 star for the publisher. The content of this guide is broadly what you would hope for. Useful local knowledge about the various starting points and routes for the three British mountains with helpful maps and photos of various points along the way so that you don't get lost. The two Irish mountains are a bit of an afterthought. There are no maps or photos so you'd need to source some more detailed information before attempting either of them, but for anyone attempting the traditional 3 peaks challenge this book will probably prove useful. There is also basic information about equipment requirements and mountain safety. Similar advice can be found freely elsewhere online but it doesn't hurt to have it all in one place along with the route information. The reason I haven't scored the guide higher is because it is very poorly typeset. There are random font size changes and top and bottom margins that vary from page to page. The text is laid out in two columns on each page with full justification so short lines are stretched with massive gaps between words, particularly on the pages where the text is bigger for no good reason. This makes for a very distracting reading experience. Also the layout of the photos is a bit confusing. Some of the Scafell Pike photos are in the Snowdon section and the section on the Irish peaks is illustrated with pictures of Snowdon, so the text is often referring to pictures that appear somewhere else entirely.
