'Mirrors' Mirrors Yet Another Great Woman Singer Surpassing Her Debut
This scintillating, highly-impressive sophomore set equals the achievement the fantastic Kim Wilde made with her own 2nd album beating the hell out of the admittedly naturally very good starter. Aside from an even more accomplished vocalisation by the lady Sandra, then-husband Michael Cretu's huge talents for songwriting, musical expertise and production are underway in fine form here, partnering Hubert Kemmler for much of the album's resulting work. And what results.'The Second Day' is a 40sec rumination on the 1st actual song-and what a starter! 'Don't Cry (The Breakup Of The World)' is an apocalyptic, searing tune, prompted by the Chernobyl disaster of the album's release where a nuclear disaster in a power plant in Ukraine caused a fair number of deaths. Peppy 'Hi! Hi! Hi!' and 'Two Lovers Tonight' get the groove going, but there's considerable thought behind the dance-work that puts many more obvious female singers to complete shame. 'Innocent Love' is a more complex single, with a harder, rockier sound. Even more impressive are the many-hooked, wistful, melody-laden 'You'll Be Mine' and 'Mirror Of Love' with their sweeping synths, deliciously lengthy choruses, with welcome backing vocals from the men. The other two singles, the throbbing, pounding 'Midnight Man' (though without the exotic synth-bell sound on the 'Essential Hits' which is rather without it, so I suggest you play that one instead) and suprising choice for the chart, the beautiful, mournful 'Loreen', ends the album in style-this ballad seeming to create the 'Enigma' sound soon to be formulated. apear Indeed it sounds like it was made in a monastery and leaves one with an overriding sense of wonderful peace, a surprising bit of hope in so downbeat a tune, and it conjures up wonderful images of rivers, meadows, standing on a lonely bridge etc.A hell of an album and one that should be in every 80s fan's collection. Most overlooked and underrated album of the year, along with Kim Wilde's 'Another Step', Duran Duran's 'Notorious' and Crowded House's 1st offering.

One of the best albums from Sandra!
For me, it is nearly the most wonderfull album of Sandra! It contains two exellent songs, "You'll be Mine" and "Two Lovers Tonight". Behind tracks like "Paintings in Yellow" or "The Journey", those are, for me, the best songs of all Her Discography! It's very remarkable the use of huge classic synthesizers, more specifically the very known Yamaha DX7. The DX7 adds the very used, excelent bass line to the mentioned tracks, making them very nice to hear and enjoy. It's a production of Michael Cretu, now ex-husband of Sandra and father of Her two kids, more known from the project "Enigma".That's all i can say, as a big fan of Sandra, one of my favourites albums!
