ioSafe 218-DISKLESS 218 NAS Diskless Fireproof Perp Waterproof

I purchased the ioSafe so that I would have a relatively secure device to store important digital documents and photographs. NAS has been running (at home) now for about two months. As a NAS novice, I couldn’t be happier. The case seems to be designed very nicely. My only wish is that the USB port on the front of the case was 3.0 rather than 2.0 (there are two 3.0 ports on the back).Initial setup was easy. I installed two identical 8 TB drives and followed the included instructions to locate the NAS on my network. Once located, the Synology software assists with configuration. There was some trial and error at this point. The Synology website has adequate help although I never seemed to find exactly what I was looking for. My solution was to search Amazon for a Synology NAS book.... a smart move! The book guided me through a more complete configuration. For < $20 (Kindle version even less), I am now more confident and comfortable with how the NAS in set up.Lastly, just a reminder that the NAS has an internal fan. The fan isn’t loud, but it seems to be constant. Once I’m sure that I won’t need to access the case, I’ll relocate the NAS from my office to some other location in the house where the background whirring won’t be an issue.

We have a lot of video projects spread across many attached hard drives generally attached in one location. We are migrating these to central storage accessible from all our devices. This is a great Networked storage device with the nice Synology interface.

Don’t use cheap hard drives. Western Digital reds worked the best.

Rock solid performance, I've used ioSafe and Synology products at work for years. Thus it was a no brainer to get this NAS to protect my valuable photographs and personal items.
