1 litre (pharmaceutical) glycerol 99.5%, in a plastic bottle. Quality corresponds to the European Pharmacopoeia (PH. EUR)and the German Pharmacopoeia (DAB), as well as the requirements as food additive E 422. Also suitable as a feed additive. Purely vegetable. Water clear, colourless clear liquid density 1.26 - 1.263 g/ml. Used in food & cosmetics. Because of its hydrophilic qualities, glycerol is used as a moisturiser in cosmetic products. As a food additive, glycerol is used under the number E 422 for keeping food moist, such as for dates or chewing gum, but it can also be used as a sweetener. In households, glycerol is often added to the water in Christmas tree stands to keep the tree fresher for longer. The glycerol provides frost protection and also means the needles last longer. Due to its moisturising effect, glycerol be used in leather care products and shoe polish to keep leather soft and smooth. Tobacco & cigarettes: glycerol is used with 1,2-propane-diol as a humectant for tobacco products. The German tobacco regulations limit the amount added to 5%. In cigarette and pipe tobacco, the humectants are primarily used to extend the storage life of the product and prevent dehydration. In shisha tobacco, users add significantly higher amounts of humectants, on the one hand, to prevent the tobacco from burning and on the other hand to produce thicker smoke. Glycerol, as well as 1,2-propane-diol, is still used as a smoke fluid in electronic cigarettes. Industry & technology. Glycerol is used as antifreeze (mixed with water as a heat transfer material), as a lubricant and softening agent. In fog fluids, it is used to increase the lifetime of the fog. (Source: Wikipedia)
