The Best British Short Stories 2012 Paperback – 1 April 2012

Some great stories in this edition.

I chose this rating because, although I didn't read the book myself because it was to give as a present, I did look at the table of contents and realized that it did include most of the authors I love and think highly of.

Bit disappointing. I’ve read a couple of these and found some great stories. This one did not quite match the standard of the others.I like to use short stories in my GCSE English classes but most of these were actually too long. Some unsuitable.

Some of the stories are confusing. I expected a more gripping read after reading it's predecessor. I would probably buy another collection as perhaps the reviews will have given guidance to the types of stories the average reader wants to read.

The stories are in general very well written and with some of the most original ideas - highly recommended to any lover of short stories.

I like all styles of writing from bios to sci fi but this was very very odd.There was not one tale I could get my head round.Get the sample first.

Excellent book of selection of short stories - from many different authors. Great as a stocking filler for Christmas or birthday gift for reader.

bought for wife and she either liked the stories or thought they were just plain stupid but at least they were talking points!

Good creative fiction, well edited with the occasional exceptional work.

Too wicked the stories in this book. Seems like writers just poured every single idea they had in their mind into this book. I fear about british writing if these were their top during 2012.

This collection just sort of slumped in a corner for me. Perhaps that is because it is mostly stories by men, though I am loathe to suggest that as a factor...still I am reaching for why I disliked it. The stories seemed to me to leave their women characters as cardboard cutouts, and it just didn't work for me. I was disappointed that it was supposed to be the best British short stories of 2012. It wasn't. It can't possibly have been. Surely there were better ones!!!
