Welcome Back, Great Man!
The title says it all! How wonderful to have the Great Man back with us. Beneath the sarcasm and humour, M J Trow/Maxwell actually does handle some very tricky issues, and always so well. This time it's no exception - the abduction and murder of young girls. He does it with such grace, though, that it's easy to forget you're reading about such a serious matter. In short, loved it (of course), and equally loved the (sneaky?) mention of Bob Skinner!

Thank goodness for Max!
Oh what a relief, Max is back! I was so afraid he had taken permanent retirement. Things would never be the same without him. Peter Maxwell is my all time favourite and must surely be the favourite of every teacher! Anyone who does not know this series is in for an unbelievable treat. This is the 17th in the series. Read them all, in as close to the right order as you can. They are just brilliant! Thank you Mr Trow!

Super story well-told as always
Another hit for Mr Trow. I have as many Mad Max books both in hard back and Kindle as I can find because I enjoy the stories so much. As an ex-teacher I fully appreciate many of the comments he makes on the education system and revel in his disregard of orthodoxy. Please let's hear more about Mad Max now he has returned from the USA.

Book 18 of the Maxwell series and still enjoying the characters. Always well written and enjoyable from beginning to end and Maxwell is a teacher of the old school where he cares for his students (past and present) and they respect him and know they can talk to him. In some ways it reminds me of the film "To Sir with Love"

Another Brilliant Mad Max Adventure
As always, not just a laugh a page, but often a laugh a line. Spot on with human nature, too.

Highly recommend this Author
Couldn't get this from my library and I have read all the previous ones in this series so had to buy it - very entertaining and would recommend to anyone who likes their detective novels 'light' and amusing too! Have donated the book to my library now so other people can get the use of it.

I love Peter Maxwell
I love Peter Maxwell. The books are humorous and he is a great character ( reminds me of Arthur Bryant in the Bryant and May books.) and also my history teacher. The plot is a little thin but nevertheless a good read. I hope there is more to come from the author.

intelligent and loving couple
This book was ok, just ok. The Maxwells are written as quirky, intelligent and loving couple, him a teacher and her a detective. I found them annoying, especially him. They are suppose to be humorous but they just grated. This was the first of the series I have read and I won't be reading anymore, yes it was well written and the characters were well drawn but the murderer was predictable and to be frank I don't want to spend anymore time in their annoying company.

I love this series...
...maybe it's because I am also a history teacher and recognise all the allusions Mad Max makes through the books. I can see these might go right over the heads on non-history teachers, as would a lot of the references to the idiocies of the National Curriculum and the political correctness which seems to dominate English education more and more every year. Still, if you're looking for an amusing and different mystery series, you should at least try one of these...
