Not quite like the book but a good watch

one of my favorite movies, I have been waiting for it to come out on DVD for sometimes. very good

The movie is great. Transfer of detail and colour in HD is great however the picture is stretched vertically. It has been stretched from 2.39 to fit 1.85 which spoils enjoyment.

Good story which you had to watch to keep up with the story line

Loved the model work but this film really creaked..It seemed vey disjointed and the dubbing of some actors was really off putting.Cassandra Crossing was much better.

All-star thriller-cum-semi-disaster movie Avalanche Express turned into something of a real-life disaster when director Mark Robson and co-star Robert Shaw died during production, leaving Monte Hellman and Gene Corman to finish the film and Robert Rietty and, for three words, Rich Little dubbing Robert Shaw, whose voice was so weak during production only six words were usable. The scars are clearly visible in the brisk running time and supporting actors who barely have anything to do (even the extras have more of a part than Vladek Sheybal, who just sits in a chair for a couple of shots), but it's doubtful the film would ever have been particularly good had everything gone smoothly. Its premise becomes increasingly unbelievable, with Shaw's KGB bigwig using his defection to kill off a biological weapons programme and the soviets' undercover network by using himself as bait on the train of the title, giving a hammy Maximilian Schell's hawkish rival plenty of chances to kill him while Lee Marvin's intelligence man and his motley band of helpers - Linda Evans, Mike Connors, Horst Buccholz, Sky Dumont and Joe Namath in a cowboy hat among them - try to keep him in one piece. What's more of a problem is that the action scenes aren't good enough to save it, with the film's big setpiece also incredibly illogical as the train races towards the safety of a mountain tunnel to avoid an avalanche rather than simply stopping when they were still miles away from it. But then this isn't a film that's big on logic, ending as it does with a heavily armed Russian trawler firing on a Dutch torpedo boat hijacked by Marvin, Shaw and co masquerading as German terrorists...On the plus side, the production values are decent - it may obviously be a model train going through a model snowscape for much of the film, but it's a very good model train - and Jack Cardiff's snowy photography is impressively deep and crisp and even, but this is generally a no-brainer in the worst sense that just about passes muster as an undemanding guilty pleasure if you're in a indulgent mood. The Spanish DVD offers the film in an acceptable but not outstanding 2.35:1 widescreen transfer that's a little soft in places, with English and Spanish soundtrack options, stills and poster gallery and the original trailer (made up entirely of still photos).

Buena pelicula para una tarde en casa. Mucha accion de la epoca y muchos actores. Merece la pena dedicarle esos euritos.

Der Film war mir durch das Fernsehen auf deutsch bekannt. Leider gibt es ihn nicht auf Deutsch. Die englische Version hat mir aber gut gefallen. Die Schauspieler fand ich große Klasse. Vom Inhalt her erhielt man einen guten Einblick in die Geheimdienste und auch in die Terroristenszene. Der Film ist sehenswert.

Pues el envio y eso bien pero es la película mas aburrida que e visto, me dormi en la mitad y no la volví a ver mas. Soporifera a tope.
