Preparatory Exercises in Score Reading

This book contains many exercises in reading scores containing the C clef. There are exercises involving the G clef (treble clef) and F clef (bass clef) but not as many. The idea is to learn each exercise thoroughly before moving on. The goal is to be able to read the score and hear the music perfectly in one's head. At my present state of music development and learning, I would have preferred there were more exercises on G and F clef scores. Amazon's description did not convey the emphasis on C clef scores. The score I have given reflects that weakness. The exercises themselves are quite advanced and challenging. Starting with books of simpler scores could help the intermediate student advance more quickly.

Shame the other reviewer has put 3 stars when they clearly intended higher - perhaps Amazon didn't have the stars in 2002!? A fantastic book, a one of a kind really for learning score reading of any complexity.

This book is excellent for university students studying music, it works through exercises and skills which are much needed for keyboard skills in any university course. It may also be suited to a-level students.
