Excellent
I really want to begin kyudo, but the nearest dojo is nearly three hours from home. So I'm doing a lot of reading in the meantime. There's a frightening amount to learn ... This book covers everything a beginner needs to know, I think. But it's no substitute for participation.

An excellent resource for Kyudo
If you only get one book on the art of Kyudo, this is the one to get. For those who are interested in learning about it or those who are just beginning training, it has essential information in understandable language. There are both line diagrams and photos; both are clear and very helpful. All diagrams are labelled in both Japanese and English. Reproductions of Japanese art and photos of practitioners of the sport add to the interest of the book. For those who are already practicing Kyudo, this book is an essential resource for fine-tuning the art. Hideharu Onuma is one of the foremost teachers of the art and so his words and pictures will be helpful to anyone who is interested in becoming immersed in this wonderful sport that builds body, mind, and spirit.

Great exposition of essence and practice
After an interlude, I decided to return to target sports and am looking to return to something like my previous standards. At a coaching course recently, it was suggested that current thinking was being influenced by Japanese archery in various ways and three books were recommended. I bought all three and am working through them as and when I can; all three are easy to read and the principles are straightforward enough most of the time so the books have been worth the money. Unless you're into target sports though, I can't imagine why you would want to read books like this unless there are some esoteric reasons I've missed.

Great. A must read.
This book contains everything necessary to practice kyudo. The many diagrams and photos explain the movements. It doesn't seem to explain how to walk into a dojo for a test, but then it shows all movements from the sitting down to the release. The step for step pictures are helping me a lot.
