DON'T BUY THIS VALVE
If you have ever replaced wide body faucet valves in your bathroom, the first thing you notice is that hot and cold valves are mirror images of each other. To open the cold, turn clockwise. To open the hot, turn counter-clockwise. Another way to describe this motion is to understand that both valves turn on by rotating towards the center of the sink and off by rotating away from the center of the sink. This is a natural motion and exactly what you need for your nice Hansgrohe faucet. This particular manufacturer is NOT selling ceramic faucets replacements that work this way. It doesn't matter if you buy the hot or the cold, they will send you the same valve that opens counter-clockwise. They are using red seating washers to denote the hot and blue seating washers to denote the cold. But the washer color is pointless. They are the EXACT SAME valve! If you are keeping score, THEY ARE SELLING HOT WATER VALVES ONLY!Now this is obviously a mistake at the factory. Some well-meaning person is putting colored washers on all of these valves and has no idea that there are two different valves required for a sink. You can do like I did and contact customer service at Amazon. They are more than happy to try and solve the problem. Their solution is to have the vendor ship you another set of miss-labeled valves. I am sure the vendor has no idea the factory has made a mistake and it is not likely the person pulling the product out of a bin for shipment has any concept of how the valve is supposed to turn. So there is no way to get them to check the valve before they send it. My advice to you is do not waste your time or your money buying this product. Until they receive a flood of returns from dissatisfied customers like myself, they are not going to even understand that there is a problem.I suppose you could just install identical valves and live with it. Of course, whenever you turn on the cold tap, your lever handle will swing outward and smack into the tile backsplash. However, your wife will not be happy with this. It might be better to just use a different sink. LIKE, FOREVER !
