Perfect preperation for the upcoming apocalypse!
I take great solace in knowing that I will be prepared for the upcoming nuclear destruction of the world and the inevitable zombie uprising. My thyroid will be chock full of beneficial iodine! All hail the zombie overlords!

Welcome addition to my first aid cabinet
This is one of those items that is like really cheap insurance - we'll probably never, ever need them, but it's silly not to have them. We ordered these to replenish a supply that was coming up on their expiration date, and at their listed price, can be had for about half the cost of other brands. Given that the "best buy" is more than two years out, we'll be placing another order just to have more on hand.

I can't comment on actually using these thankfully.
I selected these just to have around since I live close to a nuclear power plant. These are not something I have actually taken so I can't say how they taste or if they are easy to swallow. Hopefully I will never be able to answer those questions. The pills are third party tested and have the gmp seal on them as well as being made in the USA. What I can say is that the cost of these pills appear to be a much lower than the other pills I have purchased in the past. Not all is what it seems when you start comparing the pills though. TheseThe last pills I purchase cost $1.05 a pill versus these at .67 per pill. What makes the value questionable is that these pills have a shelf life date on them of 10/2026. The other pills I purchased around the same time have a 2032 date on them. While they are more expensive per pill when you factor in the replacement of these pills every couple years they become less of a value. I would think that if these pills are stored correctly they would probably last much longer based on fda recommendations for this type of pill. The only difference I can see between the two pills is packaging and that may be why these don't have as long of shelf life printed on them. Overall I think these will serve the purpose I selected them for. Living close enough to a nuclear power plant to receive evacuation notices if something went wrong makes these worth having on hand. If these are needed looking at expiration dates will probably be the least of my concerns.

Of limited benefit
The release of radiation from either a nuclear powerplant, nuclear or dirty bomb may have some fraction in the form of iodine 131 or iodine 129. The health risk associated with radioactive iodine are that it concentrates in the thyroid. These pills provide “clean” iodine and limit the accumulation of radioactive iodine. Unlike other organic supplements, these pills should have a very long shelf life ten years. I am not sure what is up with the expiration date on mine of 2025. Is this to get you to buy more using subscribe and save? The short half-life of iodine 131, 8 days, means that only 25 percent will remain after 16 days for a one time release. Iodine contamination from food sources has similar reductions in radioactive iodine over time. An adult replaces about 130 mg of iodine a day, this is the adult dose of this dietary supplement. These two bottles provide enough to replace the iodine for two adults for fifteen days--a little less than two half lives.Do they work? Yes and No. They help protect you against only one of the consequences from a release of radiation. The World Health Organization estimates that as a consequence of Chernobyl, 4000 people worldwide developed thyroid cancers over their lifetimes. Most of these were children, and almost all recovered. Thyroid cancers take from 10 to 20 years to develop. They do not work on other more common radiation related cancers. They do not help with the psychological consequences of these types of disasters. If you are in a situation where you would take these pills, you have a whole lot more to worry about than thyroid cancer.I took off two stars because they have promoted them as being more useful than they are and because of the short expiration date. I have the same anxieties and fears like everybody else. I left two stars because I keep them in a spot I can get them quickly as our world continues to fall apart.

As expected
I ordered 130mg potassium iodide tablets and that's exactly what I got. Expiration date is 10/26 -- about 2.5 years in the future. These are of course only useful in very limited scenarios -- if a nuke goes off within a few miles, these are not going to help. About the only downside is that the packaging is quite bulky for the number of pills. I've previously bought potassium iodide tablets in foil wrapping -- those could be stashed away in emergency kits far more easily.

Great for my emergency supplies
I've added this to my preparedness kit because every time nuclear events pop up in the news, potassium iodide sells out across the internet. You can read into why you might want to take this in during those events, but having a decent supply for me and my loved ones it critical for being ready. The GMP certification on the packaging and the manufacturer date being recent with a "best by" date of 10/2026 gives ample time before i would need to have fresher inventory.Due to the low cost (it will go up as supplies get low if an event happens) this 2 bottle, 2 weeks per bottle supply is one less thing I need to check off my list - highly recommend you consider doing the same.
