So much potential, too many design flaws.
I really want to give this a good rating. I read lots of website reviews from "PROS" on what they recommend and a few sites said this is the device for the serious meat burner. I disagree with those sites, as unfortunately there are too many design flaws with this device.Pros:The one good thing about this tool is that it keeps the temperature and can alert you at a specific temperature.Cons:1. The back is magnetic so if you move it around on the base at all the back comes off easily and the batteries fall out.2. Pairing it the first time is meh, there are no instructions on pairing it so a normal person goes to their bluetooth settings in the phone to pair it. You are wrong for doing that. It pairs through the app which takes control of the bluetooth and then looks for it.3. Got a new Phone? Good luck trying to pair it with the new device. Cappec support page has "Get support by product" for the flare, blaze, probe, ember, and glow. There is nowhere that it talks about the spark. 4. The app is horrible. It doesn't tell you that it will pair without you doing anything and you cannot even make temperature settings from the app, you have to set everything up using the 3 buttons on the spark. What is the purpose of having bluetooth pairing if you can't do anything from your phone other than check the temperature on your phone.Other Thoughts:I have used this to cook lots of different meats, I'm using it because it is accurate with the temperature. Everytime I have to use it I regret buying it. Especially after the batteries fall out because of that magnetic back.

IOS APP is AWFUL and makes no sense.
The IOS app is pretty useless.1. You have no control over the device from your phone.2. The APP also displays in C° only whereas the device displays in F° by default, YEAH! That makes no sense!3. The app never reflected the temperature of that the physical thermometer.4. From the APP you select the your Thermometer every time you open the app, in my case the Blaze. There is no way to permanently do this. This DUMB!5. When you select the meat you get a list of meats. I selected Turkey which displays "Turkey, Thanksgiving and custom" The temperature values that show by default make no sense (85°,19° 0°) respectively. If you select Gourmet or USDA the temperature values make no sense.I gave up on the app and wish that I could return this thing but alas I had to use it to figure out it would not work.If I somehow am missing something on the app that I am not using it in the right way then the app was not designed right. BTW I am an IT guy of 25 years.ADVICE: When designing and testing your APPs put the app in the hands of 3rd grader and see if they can figure it out. If they cannot then you need to go back to the drawing board.

Overall, I really like the Spark. The display is very clear and clean looking.
Initially had an issue with the app asking for permissions to "Location" but after an e-mail exchange with the developer and some research of my own, it isn't the developer asking for permissions. Turns out Google/Android requires permissions to Location be enabled for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to function. Here are my thoughts on the app and device now that I've had a chance to use it.Pros:- Quickly connects to the Spark with no user intervention. Meaning you don't have to go into Bluetooth settings and find the device and tap connect; it does it automatically. If you go outside the range it will alert you the device has disconnected and when you get within range it automatically reconnects.- The user interface is beautiful and elegant with great colors.- Has preset temperatures based on a variety of meats. You can also customize it with your own temperature.- Click on the temperature and you are taken to a graph. A graph is helpful if you are using this with a smoker and want to keep the temperature steady throughout the smoking process. The graph can also be exported.- Based on the temperature selected and the current temperature, it will calculate how much time is remaining. (I haven't had a chance to see how accurate this feature is, but if it works, it is an awesome feature). It also has a countdown time that will alarm when it reaches zero.- The probes are very quick to change to a change in temperature. I put both probes in a glass of ice water and in about 10 seconds both probes read 33 degrees.Cons:- Privacy concern listed above; However, this isn't Cappec fault, it is a mandatory feature of Google/Android.- Bluetooth range is limited; Again, not Cappec fault, it is the nature of Bluetooth. If you want longer range you need to look at RF and not Bluetooth. I had another brand of Bluetooth Thermometer that failed, hence my purchasing this one, but the range on it was longer and it kept connection throughout my house. This devices range is less than my other one.- Batteries are included, but when I put them it, the App told me they were at 50%.- After selecting a meat type and temperature value you are taken back to the main display. The temperature value updates, but the title of the meat doesn't always change. When you look at the graph, the meat title on the graph is correct, but back on the main display the title shows the previous meat title vice the new one selected. Other times, when I selected a new meat type, both main displays changed to that same meat type. The only display that should have changed was the display for the probe I was changing.Overall, I really like the Spark. The display is very clear and clean looking. It isn't water proof, so I know I'll have to be careful when using it outside. The app could use a few fixes, but for the price, this is a great wireless thermometer that I'll be using every time I smoke.

Works sometimes, angers me the rest.
When it works, it's GREAT. When it doesn't, it's maddening. It "falls apart" easily, it loses its pair with app (if you've gotten it to pair in the first place), and is just an overall pain to work with. That said, it is a remarkably accurate thermometer. If the design and connectivity problems were fixed, this would be my go-to thermometer. Instead I go with a different two-probe.

Would purchase again, works well
Seems to work very well, I'm still figuring out how best to use it. I like how you can program what type of meat you are cooking so that the internal temp alarm fires appropriately on the app.

Non accurate temperature readings!!
After ruining 3 large pieces of meat we have found the problem is not user error. The temperature is so inaccurate that we have over cooked our meat every time. Then when I hold the probes in my close hand it reads me a temp of over 150. It’s going to the trash since they won’t let me return it.

Awesome
I made a barbecue and I will sable to control over the meat temperature and this is the best temperature thermometer I have ever owned!
