House of M: World of M, Featuring Wolverine

Going Back to the House of M
I admit that I fled from the thought of a huge cross-character cross-over like THE HOUSE OF M. I didn't buy any of the originals, except for a couple of Alan Davis UNCANNY X-MEN issues, but it's Alan Davis -- he's a true classic. Amazon.com offered THE HOUSE OF M collection in my Gold Box, so I thought I'd give it a try.Wow. I really missed out. And since amazon.com offered that, and I bought, I'm getting offers almost everyday for the other related HOUSE OF M books. I bought this WOLVERINE collection because I love the idea of a universe where Logan and Mystique are partners working for SHIELD. This book does not disappoint in the slightest. It's the best of a long WHAT IF..? tale that isn't quite a WHAT IF..? tale at all. You get to watch these great Marvel characters in fantastic, alternate scenarios. One of my favorites is watching Sebastian Shaw sitting behind a SHIELD desk debriefing Mystique. So many little scenes like this make this collection a true gem.And Marvel, if you're reading this, you gotta get Javier Saltares and Mark Texera back on WOLVERINE ASAP!

Hard to review this one
Daniel Way's arc on Wolverine is fascinating in so much that, while it is an alternate history where Wolverine's rivalry with Nick Fury is a defining feature, he is a supporting character in his own story. Indeed, Mystique is actually the main character, but Way uses this to get into the world of M and what S.H.I.E.L.D would look like very compellingly. Reginald Hudlin's one-off with Black Panther leading a resistance against the House of M is also fairly good, Storm and Panther continue their dialogue in defiance of the Master of Magnetism. Wakanda is clearly able to hold its own. Brian Bendis's Pulse issue focusing on Hawkeye falls very flat and is, frankly, confusing, despite Kat Farrell's attempt to ground the story. Ed Brubaker's take on Captain America as a agent of equality and an American hero who ages into a sad irrelevance given his resistances through the system had largely failed. This issue is an extreme anti-climax and at first is disappointing, yet the longer one sits with it, Brubaker's genius here starts to come out and the tragedy of the story is compelling. It is a very mixed bag of House of M odds and ends.

Not technically a Wolverine story... But fantastic nonetheless
This House of M tie in was a great read. Art is amazing and the story is great. However, I went into this particular TPB thinking it would focus a lot on Wolverine and his perspective. And while the story book technically follows a Wolverine story, it's mostly a Mystique and Sebastian Shaw story with a fantastic Captain America tie in issue.Overall, a great addition to your House of M collection which provides some awesome background to the crossover event.

It sure is different
This book gives a whole new perspective on the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The storyline with Wolverine and Mystique, for instance.

Doesn't further the House of M stoyline
I'm glad I got this from the library. While the stories in it were decent, there was nothing defining about them that impacted the main storyline of the House of M.I wanted more details that impacted House of M. This just gave a weird coercive backstory between Mystique and Wolverine that I didn't like. We also got a Storm and T'Challa story that while it was a strange dynamic between them, their push back against Magento was at least a worthy story that I enjoyed. The Hawkeye story was the strangest and could have been really spectacular. Unfortunately it was told so sideways it just never has any real impact.Captain America gets a story told through the years as he grows old and becomes an astronaut. It was a decent story but again it just did nothing to further the House of M storyline.
