George Orwell’s 1984: An Audible Original adaptation

Dramatisation of Infamous Novel
Very sensitive and visceral adaptation of the novel '1984' by George Orwell which was published 100 years ago. The book forecast many of the cultural problems we have today in the West such as thought police and cancelling people. It's dystopian, authoritarian hold on the population is similar to that seen currently in China and North Korea.

Different to your average Audio book
It reads like a movie with audio description, and was done well however, Im sure this may be controversial but I didn't enjoy like the story itself.

Excellent story spoilt by awful an audio experience
1984 is my all time favourite book. I have read it many times over the years since first reading it in high school. So the story gets 5 stars from me. BUT this audible version is just awful. Firstly the background noise and sound effects just ruin it for me. I thought the different voices would be great but unfortunately I didn't find this. I really struggled to know what was going on. It was like watching a film with your eyes closed and no narration. It just didn't work. Also I love Tom Hardy so was looking forward to hearing him, but no idea when he appears probably after I had given up on it!

Excellent adaption in both the writing and the acting
I was quite surprised to see the number of negative reviews. Certainly this adaption is no replacement for the novel (as if that were possible) but I did find it a really sensitive adaption that was convincingly acted. Also, a good reminder of the importance of this book given our current cultural tendencies to persecute thought crime, to engage in doublethink and reality denial. The interrogation scenes are particularly harrowing (maybe more so than the novel). Good job!

Fine
It was a nice way of experiencing the book, but I think underwhelming as it lost some of the creation of the world of the book. Great acting, just missing something really.

I thought it was great
You could tell a lot of love and effort went into this production. Very imersive experience. Added a new dimension to story telling

Thrilling adaptation
This is an incredible dramatisation of Orwell's classic. Incredible performances, music, sound design and writing. So thrilling, funny and terrifying. Highly highly recommend!

Could of been so much better.
First off the book had Tom Hardy starring and Amazon put him as an announcer, WTF? He is a fantastic character actor who should of been in the title roll, he would of brought so much more depth to Winston. The Actor who played Winston was alright but he was supposed to have been a 39 year old but sounded like a teenager.Julia sounded more plausible as she was supposed to be 26 but what a missed opportunity not putting Tom Hardy playing Winston. Then the music, Audible were wetting themselves saying how great it was and how it was original I thought it mediocre at best. I have read the original and saw the film in the 80's which was fantastic and in my opinion this book doesn't come anywhere close to it for voice Acting and plausibility. In fact I have just re-purchased it to get the music with the wonderful performances by John Hurt and Richard Burton and others. But the music should not be underestimated, everytime I heard music in the book in my head Eurythmics were playing, is that a thought crime? As I said Eurythmics did the music for the film and released an album, 1984 sexcrime, which I still listen today. The Eurythmics music helped the film no-end to sound really dark and bleak with tracks like, room 101, sexcrime and with tracks like Double-plus-good and the unforgettable Julia. It is so annoying that Amazon can't be more 'with it'The book did OK when telling the story and it shows you what we are going through today. Whoever thought the thought Police would become a reality we already knew about Big Brother with camera's everywhere, if the film has a message it is a warning for what can become a very slippery slope.
