NOT FOR THOSE WHO LISTEN TO THE AUDIO VERSION!
I listen to my books during my commute and the truth is that I could not even get through the first chapter. Whilst the narrators name has been provided I cannot believe that it is not a computer generated voice. The cadence is so odd that I could not listen. It is so distracting you cannot follow the story. I have continued reading and may update if the story proves worth it.

Good fun read
An enjoyable romp which just keeps giving. The science devotees might not like it but everyone else should find it engaging.

Good book but confusing
I'm not sure if this is a continuation of a series of books, but I found it a tad confusing here and there, because the author narrates it like I should already know some of the information in it (i.e. some of the characters, both heroes and foes). I did think this was the first of a series of books, but maybe it's not. Other than that, it's a good book that connects aliens, spirituality and mythology. Just the sort of book that I like.

Read this book
So far I am up to book 7 in the series, this is by far the best written series of scifi I have ever read , and I have read a lot , highly recommend you read , very believeable and exceptionally researched , sounds daft but this could explain a lot of mystery surrounding the ancient objects in our world.

Just when you thought......
Another gripping instalment sweeps the Area51 series forward. Just when you thought you knew what was happening, and who you could trust, more twists confound your expectations. Really good narrative, great set-piece action scenes, and another head-scratching, must read on climax. And that is just what I plan to do. Bring on "Excalibur!"

As with the other books, a good read
If you want to follow the story from the first book you have to buy this book. As I went through the Series 51 books one after the other, I have to say it was becoming slightly tedious having to read so many pages just to arrive exactly where I thought it was heading.

Area 51 the entire series
I have read all of the special forces books that Bob Mayer has written and enjoyed them allEnjoyed the fisrt book in the series (Area 51) then it went down hill from there.Has he gone completely mad, he should write about what he know, which i must say is very good and is well informed. This writer has a very varied imagination, and in his writing he completly ruins all of the myths that he writes about.Ok i know its fiction but if he carries on writing this rubbish i wont be reading any more of his books

A series to enjoy
Halfway through this book, and enjoying it as much as the others in the series. The devil is in the detail - and this series has plenty of that! Military accuracy impressive!

Do not forget - it is fiction!
The speed in the plot becomes faster and faster and at the end we do not know any more which character is working for or against the Airlia and if, on which side they are. This series is so intelligently made because it "logically" explains events and myths that have long been enigmas in history, modern or ancient. Myths of the Bible, historical events of ancient Egypt and the statues on Easter island are interwoven with events of our modern times like Mallory's and Irvine's disappearance during their attempt to climb Mount Everest in the 1920s. This is the stuff aficionados of this kind of literature really like. But lets not forget - it is fiction, although you sometimes forget it while reading.

Fast moving and answered all my questions.
I enjoyed reading this book and in fact the whole series, however I believe it should end here. All the questions are answered and there is not need to go on.

One of a series
A enjoyable read. Hard to know who are the "bad guys" and who are the "good guys" as story progresses. Not your typical story, and I suspect you need to read the whole series to find out who, how and what. The author is not afraid to kill off supporting and lead characters on this roller coaster story. Pulp fiction at its best.

A very entertaining mixture of sci-fi, mystic and military.
This book is perfect for a rainy weekend or a transatlantic air trip. It has exactly the right mixture of suspense, thrill, sci-fi, mystic and military action. The author plunders all fields of legends, (pseudo-)religious ideas and all the favourite sci-fi ideas and mixes them into a bold, breathtaking novel.Caution however: you probably want to read the previous books in this series first, otherwise you get easily lost.

hard on your ears
The story was a good one. I've listened to the whole series by now on audio book but this was the worst narrator of the entire series and most likely the worst I've ever heard. He mispronounced a lot of words and had no emotion in his voice. The entire thing sounded like he was just reading from a piece of paper and had no interest in what he was doing. If you listen to the series, like I do, do yourself a favor and just read this instead of listen to it. Almost thought my ears would start bleeding...

Aliens vs Humanity, and we seem to be losing. Very fast-moving story-with multiple story lines. Good Job, Bob.
Again won't go into details. Aliens been on Earth for tens of thousands of years. Alternately trying to manipulate us or destroy us. Several different groups, some relatively (ha!) benign towards Humans, the others want to wipe us out. One group controls Easter Island where one of their computers is sited, They've taken over one of our naval carrier forces off Easter Island and "modifying" crew and ship. Meanwhile, search is on for the Ark of the Covenant, the Grail, The Sword and a number of early relics that are more than they seem. Duncan, Turcotte, Kelly and the restfighting to save the World from Aliens at a time when it's in flux and each group is only interested in itself. Very fast-moving.

Is this the grail you were looking for?
The Grail, the fifth book in the Area 51 series by Bob Mayer, continues the saga of earth as interfered with by aliens known as the Airlia. Artad or Aspasia, which one is the right one to side with? Is that even the right question? Who is the mysterious man in black that scares everybody? Why is Lisa Duncan stuck underneath the Sphinx? What's going on at Easter Island? Egypt? China? Area 51?This book wound up being as enjoyable as the previous books. Initially, however, I was bored and had a tough time getting into the story. It just wasn't grabbing me or my imagination. But I remained committed to completing the book, and I'm glad I did. About the 40% mark is when I started being engaged in the story. And the setup for the next chapter is immense. I can't imagine where the story goes next.I recommend the book, but only in order. You don't have to know all that has come before, but it will be mighty confusing if haven't followed the series so far. 3-1/2 stars gets a 4.{Note: Originally posted on Goodreads]

Good read!
Aliens, ( some good, some evil) religion, detailed information on aviation ,scuba, ships, parachuting etc. It was a learning experience for me, the authors SEAL expertise is evident- guys will LOVE it, but I liked it too! There's fighting but not gory. I enjoyed the way all the mysterious places and historical figures take on new meaning in this "what if" story, can't wait to read the next one!

nice read
a really enjoy Mayer's books and the way he writes, with the one possible exception that he devotes too much time to reviewing what has happened in the series up to that point in each book. I know why it's done and realize it's necessary (and I'm not really sure how else you would apprise someone who hasn't read the entire series of what's going on), but when you're in the throes of an action sequence only to stop and review why something happened the way it did, it's something of a buzz kill. Again, not faulting Mayer's otherwise very-very enjoyable work, but am perplexed about how to accomplish "neophyte review."

Fun read for a second time
Accidentally bought this book. Originally read it many years ago in paperback. After a chapter or so recognized the story but completed reading it anyway. Guess that is a good recommendation; it was still a fun read.
