Monk: Season 3

Best Series ever!
Monk is a quality series with a perfect formula. I love all the seasons and watch them over and over. The actors are high quality, the pace is easy to watch, and they don't make great series like this any more.

Ludicrous, infantile scripts.
This would have been a fun movie with maybe one sequel. But by the third segment the main character's eccentrities would have worn thin. I enjoyed the actors and the clean, colorful production. If only the mysteries had been more interesting and the ensemble characters hadn't been so ridiculous this series might have been worth watching beyond the first season. I tried several episodes in 2 and 3, but the scripts were too infantile.

Mostly good.
Mostly I like this series. Sometimes Monk's idiosyncrasies are a little drawn out to the point of irritation and slowing down the storyline. It's over-played. It also took an adjustment when they switched his caretaker around the 4th season (I think). The first was fun to watch and a tough girl-with-a-heart-of-gold compliment to his completely dysfunctional personality; a much, much better fit for the show in my opinion. I did adapt to the replacement, who was so lackluster coming on abruptly before the season even finished. She never quite filled the shoes for me but gradually became adequate. The story lines are good and as long as the directing didn't have Monk overplaying his OCD, I enjoyed the plot. I somehow felt throughout that they were trying to recreate a show based on the format of Columbo----especially his earlier seasons, but never quite hit on the magnetism or intelligence of that series. Nevertheless, it wasn't a "waste" of time for me. Though I needed a break from the series, I may pick it up again.

Falling In Love Again
I'm still falling in love with this wonderful show. And this season sure carried that theme through for me. In episode three Monk gets about as close to falling in love again as we've seen him when he meets Alicia Coppola wearing a hard hat no less. And I got about as close as these old bones can manage when episode 10 arrived and we were all introduced to Traylor Howard as Monk's new assistant, Natalie Teeger. What a cutie! I just want to wrap her up and take her home and....uh, I'd better stop right there. This is a family show, after all. But her cuteness aside she really does provide a fresh new approach to 'handling Monk' and the interaction between her and Shaloub on screen is just as 'right' and entertaining as was the chemistry between him and Bitty Schram. Best of Season honors, though, has to go to the finale, The Kid. Keep the tissues handy when you watch. Heartwarming.I have one problem with this season...the crappy packaging. Discs stacked atop each other! What's with that? Fortunately I'm almost as fussy a Monk and I was ready with slim jewel cases and a label program, so there!

One of the best programs on TV
The first time I saw a Monk episode I did not think much of the show. I didn't pay much attention to it because I was busy cooking. The second time I watch an episode was at a friends house and both my wife and I fell in love with the characters. There is a little Monk in all of us. While I am sure he would drive me out of my mind if I lived with him, he is lovable in spite of all his quirks. The show has everything, it is both a great detective story and a comedy. It has no gratuitous violence or sex in it which is refreshing in this day and age. Besides Monk, my two favorite characters are Stottlemeir and Natalie. Their relationship with Monk is as opposite as night and day. While Stottlemeir gets extremely impatient with Monk, he is understanding of the man; and Natalie, who has infinite patience, sometime just lays down the law and Monk accepts it. Their interdependence is most obvious even when they are at odds. The show is refreshing and I always feel better after watching it.While there are re-runs of the program, I have been buying the Season DVDs because I want to be sure that I can always watch an episode of Monk.

Season 3 was missing two discs..
I liked all of what I saw. There were only two discs and there should have been four. I don't know who made the mistake. I had to return Season 3 to Amazon and told them about it. I have the complete series now and Season 3 has all the discs. First time this has happened at Amazon.

Great show. Great streaming quality.
I remember watching this series when I was younger and laughing at all the awkward situations Mr. Monk would get himself into. For me, the comedy still holds up. I caught myself actually laughing out loud while enjoying this show.I bought this season while it was on sale for $5. I love Monk and I am so happy I found a high quality streaming option. However, I would not pay the normal price for the separate seasons when I could purchase the entire series on DVD for $70. For me personally, the convenience is not worth the amount they are asking.

All the family are fans
We love Monk, quaintly quirky, wonderfully weird and above all, loveable.Seen series 1 and 2 now on 3 and will be working our way through all series. There are not many TV programmes that you can watch together with all the family or indeed that all the family want to watch together. My eight year old grandson and my mid teen grandson will happily sit and watch these with my wife and I.When I saw the last episode of Monk on TV, many moons ago, I have to say there were a few tears. I've no doubt there will be a few more when we work our way through to the last episode.

Monk great! But dvd box in TERRIBLE condition!
Monk is brilliant..hilarious and poignant. No complaints there! However, I bought this for my husband for Christmas and I was really cross when I saw the box..it was crushed on the outside and was also crushed and broken on the inside too. Thankfully discs seem ok. It was reasonably well packaged which makes me wonder...Was this box sent from warehouse in this terrible condition? Disgraceful! I kept discs as it was so close to Christmas and had no time to return the item. After Christmas had to buy another dvd box to hold the four discs. Disappointed.

Very watchable and funny.
I find Monk a really easy to watch, funny and yet serious programme. I didn't watch it on TV and only really started watching it because we had nothing to watch but am really glad I did because it is really funny and I can see so much of my own anxieties in Monk as well (not quite as crazy as him though!). Plus for this price you can't really go wrong!

If you like the character you'll love this series
My wife loves Monk whereas I got a little fed up after series 2. This is definitely one of those series where you either like the main character or not. However you go, the story lines are always first class.

It’s a both a blessing & a curse
Adrian Monk the obsessive compulsive “It’s a both a blessing & a curse” detective, series three. Adrian was once a rising star in the San Francisco PD. Until the murder of his wife Trudy. Then his psychological disorders took over & he was suspended from the force. He is now employed as a private detective helping the SF police. In my eye’s only goes from strength to strength. In season 3 we see (or rather don’t actually see) the departure of his assistant Sherona, Sherona first disappears in Mr.Monk & the Game Show, she’s visiting her ailing mother. And by the next episode Mr.Monk & the Red Herring we find that she’s moved back to New Jersey & remarried her former ex-husband. But seriously do not despair in this episode we have the arrival of his new assistant Natalie. Whom I have to say in keeping with the show is an excellent addition to the cast. She fits in almost seamlessly & adds a new tougher sparring partner for Mr.Monk. Natalie is such a great character that you very quickly warm to her & see her on the same par as Sherona.Season three is as good if not better than 1 & 2. The Character of Mr.Monk is more rounded and comical. Tony Shalhoub has won critical praise for his portrayal of the dysfunctional Mr.Monk. Captain Stottlemeyer & Monk play off each other far more in series 3, than in previous series. Which adds even more comical situations. In all the characters are more rounded. There are so many detective shows on TV, but this is so offbeat, comical & odd that you’ll either love or hate it. Personally I love the show; we’ve all met people with Monkish traits. We even all have Monkish traits about us. His selfishness because of his neurosis’s can be hilarious. This is because he is afraid of so many everyday things, including Milk! Don’t expect the run of the mill detective show, its cookie, clever & different. You’ll either love or hate it. Well worth buying if your already a Monk fan.
