Excellent pointers for waking up
It's difficult to find clear and concise Mahamudra or Dzogchen instruction that gets right to the point. The standard advice is to find a teacher. That's not bad advice, it's just that there are few realized teachers, and even fewer accessible realized teachers who give direct pointing out instructions. For every teacher that gives such instructions there are thousands who merely talk *about* the nature of mind, who are content to theorize rather than show you the way.Even if you find an excellent, realized teacher who gives practical instruction, it is helpful to have reminders for your daily practice. You can't always call your teacher up and ask them a question. This book is an anthology, which means it contains samples from a number of different texts and teachers. Most of the selections in this book are exactly what I was looking for: how-to practice reminders, not endless theorizing or talking about. After all, isn't the whole point to actually wake up, right in this very moment? As Tilopa said, and quoted in this excellent anthology..."Don't reflect, don't imagine, and don't evaluate. Don't meditate, don't think, rest in naturalness."It really is that simple, but that doesn't mean it is easy!May all beings awaken to the nature of mind and be liberated instantaneously.

Dipping In and Out
I don't actually "read" this book in a traditional start to finish way. I just dip into it between breaks in practice at home or on retreat. Very lovely reminders of advice and instructions already received.

Great!!
One of clearest books on the topic. Probably most helpful if one has experience in practice.

A good companion
This is a very fine short compilation of teachings. It would be a very good companion on retreat for someone with quite a bit of background in the tradition and experience with practice - for anyone doing a specific practice to be reminded from time to time of the breadth and depth of the teachings and the refinements of view. For a beginner it might be quite inspirational and give a good layout, both historical and philosophical, of the various teachings and teachers within the tradition, and their relationship with one another. However I would recommend it only to practitioners, those who have an ongoing relationship with a living teacher.

Very profound compilation
of texts about Mahamudra and Dzogchen from realised Masters of the Kagyu and Nyingma tradition. The final meaning of the view of emptiness as the basic nature of all phenomena is well described. Thanks Marcia and Erik for releasing this book.
