Misleading title and confusing organization
I chose the book over others because I thought it would touch on all kinds of adventures in the park, not just hiking. I was really surprised (disappointed) that there was no mention of rafting at all. By all accounts, rafting or paddling the Rio Grande is a must-do while visiting Big Bend. Even the front cover is of Santa Elena Canyon, which is one of the most common areas for guided river trips! My second "dislike" is with the organization of the book. Here are the chapter titles:*Two Hour Adventures*Half Day Adventures*A Full day Adventure*Adventures with families and small children*Adventures for the physically fit*Adventures at an easy pace*Adventures for people with limited mobility*Adventures in a vehicle*Adventures for nature loversSo, if you are a physically fit nature lover looking for an all day hike, you've got to sort through at least 3 chapters to find what you're looking for. There are "driving adventures" included in most of the chapters, not just the vehicle chapter. The photography is nice and it does give you a good idea of the hiking and driving options available in the park, I just wish it were laid out in a more logical fashion and maybe the author can include river trips in a future edition or change the name to "hiking and driving adventures for everyone"

Not helpful as a guide book
This book was obviously written by someone with a great love for Big Bend. They share many memories of past visits. What I wanted was a guide book with information about park roads and services. There is very little useful information at all. It is however a pleasant read if that is what you are looking for.

Not as complete as Hiking Big Bend National Park
This book can be a good supplement to Hiking Big Bend National Park but misses a lot of what the other book has. It doesn't cover as many trails, it doesn't have maps of the trails (much less elevation graphs like the other book). It doesn't have a best-of section (it's too small for a best-of section). That said, if you already own Hiking Big Bend National Park, there are a few tips you can pick up in this book that make it worth reading, after you read the other book.

Excellent resource for those planning a Big Bend visit!
My wife and I are so glad that we purchased this book prior to our visit to Big bend National Park. It goes into far greater depth about what to see and experience than the National Park brochures provided at the gate. It is well worth the cost to pre-explore the park through this book. Since Big Bend is one of the more distant parks off of any beaten path, it is a good idea to do your homework before considering a visit. This is the Textbook to go along with your homework!

Pretty Good
Pretty good guide to the area. We used it when we didnt have much service at the park and to figure out which trails to hike. Only thing is, it states Javelinas are friendly, which they are NOT in the wild. Overall a preddy good reference book.

All in all a great book that I will use again and again and ...
I actually had this one sent to my sister since we were traveling together. She marked more stuff to do than we had time in our week there!!! We did have a little bit of a hard time translating the descriptions in the book to the park map and visa versa. A map of the park is a must because some of the starting points in the book seemed vague. All in all a great book that I will use again and again and again!!

Nice, but not necessary.
A nice book, but not a necessity for the first time visitor.
