Inventive Survival
As a classic adventure story, this one is pretty good. Robinson Crusoe was an ingenious survivor and a most industrious fellow, driven by his Christian ethics. I think the the religion bit was carried too far and soon skipped pages whereupon he went on and on, but it is true to western principles of that era. Once he arrived back in England, the story could have been shortened, but no. Robinson Crusoe had further adventures. These could be shortened and, indeed, they are as the repetitions drag on. I'd recommend this book despite its old style of writing. Especially I recommend it for young people. You never know when survival techniques will become one's own best tools.

As valuable today as it was when written.
Great book, still for people who may be somewhat “down”...it shows there is sunlight behind the clouds and even more than one might have imagined.Good Book

The book I received is not the one advertised and not the one in this illustration.
The book I received should not have been listed under this label - what I received was another edition called 'Junior Classics'. It has another cover and contains some rather crude illustrations, not those of Mr. Wyeth as advertised. I suppose I really should have returned the book because it certainly was not what I thought I was ordering. I do think this was due to someone's mistake rather than a deliberate deception - as long as the text was an unabridged version, it would same the same purpose I had in mind. But I wish Amazon would be more careful about listing various versions together when there are significant differences between them.

Misrepresentation!!
"Robinson Crusoe is available in multiple editions. This is a useful one. The text is complete; the introduction is intelligent; the notes are good. There are reaction quotes from such figures as Coleridge, Rousseau and Marx. Most of all, the text is readable and the edition is inexpensive. I have used it in class for several years now and the cover and pages remain intact. Of the editions available, for the price, this is one of the very best." The above very intelligent review inclined me to purchase this particular version of Robinson Crusoe in Kindle. THIS KINDLE VERSION DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE QUALITIES!!! Don't buy it!!

Classic for Grandkids
It was more than I expected. Written with more modern English and yet kept the flavor of the original many years ago. A great book to have around the house for kids and grandkids...plus a good read for us grown-ups.

A classic tale
The story of Robinson Crusoe is extremely well known, even by those that have not read the story. In the past, I have seen some books which were based upon this, but were primarily cut down and modernised versions (mostly for children). So it seemed to make sense to get the original. This volume is composed of 2 actual stories, the "Adventures" and the "Further Adventures". It also has a short piece at the end, detailing the life of Alexander Selkirk, who it is thought was the inspiration for the storyline. One thing that struck me was that the book has no chapters; it just continues page after page without a break. I would also note that the transcriber for the ebook version was missing several pages which is highlighted in the text. The other odd thing was that the time Crusoe spent marooned is actually a very small part of the narrative; and some 20 plus years is dealt with in a matter of a few pages. The book also contains an extensive amount of theological and religious text; this was fairly normal for the period, but can get tedious if you are not that way inclined. It's also quite interesting how often the topic of finance crops up.It is worth the read, particular as it is free; but it is not one that I would keep on the Kindle.

A fantastic story - its free why haven't you got it yet?
This is one of my most favourite books of all time, so good I tend to read it every few years. I can't put it down even though I know whats going to happen. Some of the old fashioned writing style and biblical rantings may seem a bit odd, but bear with it. Its a fantastic 'marooned on desert island' book. If you paid to watch Tom Hanks be marooned with a load of DHL parcels, shame on you if you haven't read this far superior tale. This Kindle version seems to include the 'further adventures' of our hero Robinson Crusoe which I haven't always seen in paper books. These do tend to labour on a bit, but are an interesting look at the dangers faced by travellers when moving around the world. And especially the almost puritan views that Crusoe has about anybody who isn't a Christian, or is but a 'papist'.Oh don't forget its FREE, what have you got to lose

You gotta read it
The full length story of Robinson Crusoe is a masterful piece. The imagination of Defoe is remarkable, but believable, particularly in the time of writing. Critical analysis puts all kinds of spin on where this was coming from, but it's just a b....y good yarn. Not deep (a la Gullivers Travels et al) but still has a powerful moral message which was ignored at the time

I don't know if it's only this version or this ...
I don't know if it's only this version or this book in general, but unfortunately there's a portion of the book missing and I found it missed enough of the story that I didn't know what was happening and gave up reading after that.
