One time read
This book is not edited properly. Spelling mistakes, wrong grammar and repetitive statements/paragraphs.Considering the book is based on spying agency, the author has not mentioned any source of his information. It's a one time read if you're into post independent history of India.

Shambolic. Unreadable. Self Centred. Poorly edited.
1. At first I thought that it was a problem with the Kindle edition but one other reader has also mentioned that its full of spelling mistakes , missing sentence construction and generally shambolic .2. Like most people who write autobiographies, the author places himself in the centre of many of the episodes . So the perspective is very clear - "I am such a nice guy surrounded by a bunch of incompetents".3. He goes on to name many later officers as incompetents and part of a highly corrupt force that has less to do with intelligence work and more to do with self aggrandizement at the taxpayer's expense. Given the level of corruption in other ministries, this seems very much possible.4. The pre R&AW years are covered in detail with the legendary R.N.Kao being given lot of space. However some of the conclusions of the 1962 war are clearly designed to blame the Armed Forces and not the intelligence . SOme of the "proof" cited is erroneous - eg - The Chinese Mig 17 and Mig 19 can fly all the way to Madras. (Then it would have been a one way trip).5. About the only thing that sounds true and unbiased is the persistent mention of making the intelligence services subject to oversight like the West (CIA and MI6 have oversight and are answerable to political committees). In sum, even if you leave aside the persistent spelling mistakes and poor grammar, it is very painful to read the book as it is full of wild accusations against various officers and Chiefs and very little about the successes - beyond the well known Bangladesh Operations.
