A good story
I enjoyed this story - but I can't see its belonging to the Diamond of the Rockies Series. As an independent contemporary story, it was very enjoyable.

Twilight
Cal is haunted by the demons of the past. Fighting one fire in particular has changed his life, left him with nightmares and PTSD. He can't be the firefighter he was meant to be and has been devoting himself to dressing up like a clown and teaching fire safety to children. His one love, Laurie, is back in town and he wonders what he has to offer her. Just seeing her tears his heart apart, because she seems unwilling to start their relationship back up, but he's not giving up easily.Laurie has left her husband. She married him to get the approval of her parents and the posh life she wanted, but the results left her heart hollow and her life in danger. When bad things start happening, she turns to Cal, and he's willing to risk everything for her while she's unwilling to repeat the past. This book was great. The characters are real, flaws and all, and you're really cheering for them to conquer their past and get on with their lives. They won't be able to do it without God, and that part of the story is woven into the story in such a beautiful way. I really liked how the book didn't end when the danger left. It continued on until there was true healing for Cal and Laurie. Normally, having a lot of pages after the action ends can get tedious, but this book is an exception. You get so invested in wanting to see these two succeed, you don't feel like there's resolution until they're made whole.

BROKEN DOWN Firefighter rekindles the love he had with an old flame and becomes a dad to her kids that they needed.
Enjoyed another great book by this author. Cal and Laurie both had a lot of baggage to take care of. Before a relationship could develop. Laurie brought something from her marriage that put her, the kids and Cal in danger. Cal wanted to be there for Laurie but she couldn't let him in. Cal had great friends to support him and even pray for him. His life as a clown for fire safety gave Cal some peace and helped some with his demons from the past. But both he and Laurie needed God to take control of their lives. Maddie and Luke loved Cal and when Laurie got into trouble she knew Cal would keep them safe. But Cal had to go after Laurie to save her because he loved her. They were both injured in it but Cal was able to rid himself of his demon and save her. He also was accused of things too. He was able to be resolved of it though. But during this he lost Laurie and the kids. She felt she didn't love him and went back to her old lifestyle and almost made a mistake. But she turned back and came back to Cal with all the love she could give. He had never stopped loving her.

Gripping in Places
When she found out what her husband had become involved in and their marriage fell apart, Laurie felt she needed to go back home. She had turned her back on Cal once, because she thought she wanted what her mother had taught her to look for--a more lavish lifestyle. But she knows Cal will be there for her, because that’s the kind of man he is. What she didn’t know was that he’s trying to recover from his own battles after a young child is burned to death in a fire he was fighting. Both in their relationship and when the danger her husband is in spills over to them, they will have to fight all kinds of fires.Oddly, this kindle book had spaces in the middle of words, which tells me it wasn’t read carefully after it was formatted. The dialogue also runs together in some places, making it difficult to tell who's speaking. There were some awkward sentences, like “What sort of scum had Laurie?” “Prevarication” was used when “procrastination” was meant--a big difference. A couple of the characters used “Big Man” to refer to God so many times it became annoying and sounded almost disrespectful. I also found Laurie trying to be cold to Cal while still needing his help went on for way too long. Yet, I found the story to be interesting, hard to put down, and even gripping in places. I gave it 4.5 stars, which rounded up to a five. It had an especially strong ending.

Not a vampire book - thank goodness :-)
If I could give this another half-star I would. 4-1/2 stars. I rarely give five-stars. A book has to really, really blow me away, and the more books I read, the harder it is to give five stars. But this one comes close.I won't give you a plot summary, you can find that out from other reviews, and the official publisher's outline. I liked this book because both the hero and the heroine are "damaged" emotionally. How they find each other (again) is how the story goes. There's action and adventure and the romance. It seems, however, these two "knew" each other in the biblical way earlier in their lives. It's a Christian fiction book, and Kristen Heitzmann did a great job of not being preachy, but she also makes her standards clear through the flawed characters of the book. When I first saw the title, I was concerned it was part of the vampire series, but it's not, thank goodness. If you read the book, you'll know why it's called that. The hero has PTSD, and the heroine married the wrong guy. Why did she run away from her marriage back to her hometown and re-connect with the fireman she had first loved. That's the question.I also liked, because the book is a little longer, the fact that, even when the heroine is "available" - she doesn't just jump into the fireman's arms. But it's a romance too, so you know they will, it's only a matter of when and how. That's the story. Not gonna give it away. I liked It a lot.
