I've been beating on these little boards for days and I've found that maybe 5 percent of they time they just lock up and won't play any sound for a few seconds while they reset. Bonus: they reset to MAXIMUM VOLUME WHICH WILL BLOW OUT YOUR EARDRUMS WITH THE NEXT SOUND CALL IF YOU'RE NOT EXPECTING ITThey seem to be good at playing sound intermittently: e.g. play a sound, wait a second, play another sound. I'm thinking maybe sending too much data to the boards too quickly might be flooding the serial comms and causing the boards to freak out. I'd have better advice for you if I hadn't gotten a C- in CompSci twenty years ago.These DFPlayers would be just peachy for your Sunday afternoon church picnic Arduino sound effects, but I'd think twice about using them for anything where reliable audio playback is mission-critical.Then again, it's tough to beat five boards at this price.

I have purchased and used a number of Arduino type sound modules. I found that each had various drawbacks including cost, size, and functionality.In my search for a sound module to best fit my various project and experimental needs, I tried the DFPlayer Mini. This device measures about 0.75" square, easy to interface, and has many programming features. This device also includes an audio amp to directly drive a speaker, and includes line out options for an external amplifier. Volume can be easily controlled. Sound files can be easily linked together. This makes this device a really great consideration to add sounds, music, and/or voice to applications and projects.In my opinion and applications, one of the greatest attributes is the micro SD card! This allows storage and organization of different sounds, music, and voice clips of various lengths. Most "other types" of sound modules have limited storage space, and need to be programmed. This micro SD card attribute allows application sounds to be easily changed by inserting a different card, or organizing sound files dependent upon application needs.This device is great quality, low cost, small size, easy to interface, and includes lots of features. I would recommend this product.

Using the attached schematic I got 0 out of 5 to work. Very disappointed.

I have used a quite a number of these. They are very hit and miss on quality. Sometimes all 5 work and other times 4 out 5. This batch 2 out of the 5 worked.

Can't go wrong - amazing value for building an mp3 player. Will be buying more of these.

Didn't work. Returned them. Pure garbage.

Simply put, these just didn't work for me at all. The first one I tried worked fine at first but after about a month the light was really dim and wouldn't play audio. I tried the other 4 and theyre all DOA; the indicator light goes on when they're mounted but it just stays on, and doesn't play audio. I've tried troubleshooting this but there's 0 information on this issue. I may have gotten a bad batch, can't say for sure but I won't be buying this brand again.

These are extremely poorly made.The micro SD card slot broke on 3 out of 5.Specifically the spring mechanism that keeps the SD card inserted broke.

They are wonderful.

Not sure what else to comment on... they were delivered promptly and while I've only tried one so far it worked properly when hooked into a breadboard. As for whether the DFPlayer Mini is a five star item, you can read the reviews on that chip, and check out the datasheet elsewhere... but I like it. I'm planning to order more for a class project... a very cool little board.
