Does the job well.
Needed this to strain 1 1/2 gallons of fryer oil. It works well. Drains quickly and removes most visible particles. Yes, I know that large coffee filters strain to a finer degree but it takes forever for the cool oil to drain through them compared to this strainer’s larger pore size. I believe that the actual oil life will not be extended much longer by using a finer strainer anyway. Oil always degrades over time. That’s why commercial facilities use this type of strainer. That said this filter is big enough to put a large coffee filter in it if you want to. My only concern is that I had to use a 5 gallon pot to strain the grease into since the strainer is so deep. Otherwise, someone would have had to hold it for me while I poured the oil through it. The frame is nice being stainless steel and has a fairly long reach to hold onto the side of a five gallon bucket or pot in my case making it a one man job. It’s easy to clean in hot soapy water and folds to store easily with my fryer. I’m happy with it.I did notice in the reviews that some people said it melted. That’s why you can only use this with cool oil. It is a nylon filter after all. Yes, they do make high temperature filters to drain hot oil but they are high dollar and don’t work any better. Usually only fast food restaurants use them for quick turnaround on less downtime. But I can understand if people did strain hot oil since the strainer doesn’t come with any instructions. I guess they just expect you to know how to use it correctly.
