As an adult new to Christianity and a newly baptized Orthodox Christian, I found this book incredibly helpful in presenting profoundly nuanced theological topics in a way I could thoroughly understand. I've sometimes struggled with comprehending the writings of the Church Fathers because of my limited intellectual capacity and lack of any background in philosophy or theology. A.D. Alford presented many of the Church Father's writings in a way that I felt was almost a translation. He writes in a modern vernacular that is as poetic as instructive.While I've read many other books that have presented the concepts of Orthodox Theology as elucidated by the Church Fathers, I have never read a book that so effectively synthesized and distilled these concepts into a modern voice that made them so easy to understand. My copy of the book is full of highlights and post-it notes. It will undoubtedly be a book that I read many times.I am getting extra copies of the book to give to inquirers and catechumens who show up at my church because I feel it's such a fantastic and approachable introduction to the idea of the Divine Logos and Christology, which are things that most people approaching Orthodox Christianity may have never heard of.Even non-Christians will find wonderful enrichment by reading this book as it will inform them of the nuances of the philosophical mindset that informs and directs Christians.If you only read one book on Christology, you couldn't do better than this one.
