EXCELLENT study guide for someone taking the PE Civil - Structural exam. I recommend this book very highly. I used this book as my primary study method and it definitely helped me pass the exam. The solutions are detailed and allow you to check your work step by step. It may be worth double checking the code versions you’re using and whether they match the versions used in the solutions. The book covers many different codes and topics and was great preparation for the exam.Note that these problems are quite thorough and can be difficult. Even the book addresses this in the introduction. I did not try to solve these problems in 6 minutes, I worked them slowly thoroughly, and a single problem sometimes took 45 minutes. But the process of working through detailed problems was GREAT for my understanding. Use this book to reinforce your knowledge of structural engineering, rather than just studying for the specific format of the exam.In my experience, the problems in this book are more difficult than the actual exam. By studying out of this book I felt very well prepared on exam day. Great study guide, highly recommended!

I passed the PE Civil: Structural exam earlier this month on my first attempt, and I have Dr. Petro to thank for it. I would not have gone into exam day anywhere near as prepared as I was had it not been for his problem set.Dr. Petro's book was my main resource in preparing for the PE Civil: Structural exam. The place of practice problems in studying is as a means to gain familiarity with the relevant codes. The provided solutions were the most detailed I had seen, listing all references used to obtain the correct answer (something I could not say about any other problem set I used).If anything is unclear in the problems or their solutions, Dr. Petro is quick to respond to emails - on one occasion he responded to a question I had within five minutes!This guide is the only reference I used that I would recommend to anyone and everyone preparing for the PE Civil: Structural exam.Many thanks to Dr. Petro, and best of luck to all reading this preparing for their exam!

I was worried about purchasing this book because some reviews said there were errors in the solutions, however upon my purchase in July 2024, the author has resolved and updated ALL of them! This book is an excellent resource to passing the PE exam. SOME problems are certainly more difficult and challenging than what the actual exam entails however, the objective with this is that it forces you to THINK thus enhancing your understanding of said topics! The solutions are extremely well laid out with step by step procedures and references to each section/manuals used. There are some questions that may feel confusing and overwhelming, however you can email the author and they usually respond within 10 minutes with additional thorough explanations. I’ve asked Dr. Petro over 100 questions at this point, feeling bad about doing so but he is EXTREMELY patient in their email responses and explanations and encouraged to continue emailing questions! (major emphasis on the “extremely patient part”) – I’ve even emailed him pictures of my solutions to questions that I either disagreed with or had difficulty grasping. This is not just a book, it truly is a complete guide and with the author willing to help with questions/comments, it is WAYYYYY BEYOND ITS WORTH! Try the essential guide and make sure to take your time with understanding and grasping ALL of the concepts.

The book is great for understanding different topics to pass the PE exam, it is way more difficult than the actual NCEES exam and I actually got a question in the exam that is exactly like one from this book.While using this book, in rare occasions it felt that it needs some more explanation because the book assumes that people who use the book know/understand all concepts. I think with the recent changes to PE civil structural exam, it would be more helpful if the book focused more on conceptual questions or break some of the long questions to shorter 2-steps solution questions.Overall experience using the book was excellent, it explores various topics and questions ideas.

I wish I could give this product six stars—absolutely love it! The difficulty level is very close to the real exam, making it a great study resource. As a bonus, the author is incredibly responsive and always willing to answer users’ questions. Highly recommend!

Seems like it’s going to be a great study tool, but pages 101-108 are completely missing. It jumps from Page 100 to Page 109.

I ordered this for the Civil Structural PE and found it to be a great resource. Questions covered most topics required of the exam. I felt the questions were often times more difficult that the actual PE exam, but the added difficulty made me more efficient in the actual exam. Solutions were easy to follow as well. I reached out regarding an errata, and not only did I receive that, but I was sent a brand new printed copy as well with all the corrections. Great reference and customer service! I plan to use this as a supplemental reference again when I start my journey towards the SE.
