Not really suitable for 100A, but works well otherwise.
A few key things to know about this transfer switch:-The pilot relay inside the switch uses a 230v coil, so this transfer switch will not work with 120Vac (you will burn up the operator coil if you try). 220-250vac only.-The terminals are too small to handle 100 amps continuously. Based on the cable size you could reasonably attach to the terminals, this switch is more appropriate for 40 amp continuous loads.-It's automatic in the sense that it can automatically switch between two sources when wired in accordance with the supplied documentation, but it lacks the dry contacts to call a generator to start when the primary source fails so it's not *entirely* automatic.I suspect this transfer switch is the same as all of the other similar looking ones on here. From that perspective, this makes this particular switch the better value which is kept in mind when reviewing this switch. Build quality is not impressive, but at this price point, nothing will be. The switch I received to evaluate worked as it should. Switching is very quick and positive between each source. The operator coils will switch at 120VAC, however, there is a disconnect relay inside the switch that disconnects the primary source operator coil. That relay does not close when 120VAC is applied so the primary source operator coil will remain energized and eventually burn up. You must use 220-250vac to operate the switch properly. I strongly question the 100amp rating of this switch. The contactor terminals are far too small to accomodate any connection that would support 100amps. Realistically the contacts suggest this is a 40amp switch. For what this product is, this is my only gripe with it. The manual bypass switch allows the operator coils to be disconnected and the switch may be manually operated. Quite a bit of effort is needed to throw the switch, but it's still a nice feature nonetheless. There are only previsions for a DIN rail mount on the switch that I received, which may be a deal breaker for some. This would be a good switch for switching between two different sources on a light load such as lighting. I just don't see this switch being adequate for whole-home loads. For something that can automatically switch between a primary and secondary source on a budget, this switch seems to fit the bill well.

Good Budget Switch -
This works as it should - its lighter duty and has several specific cautions, but used as recommended it seems fine.A few notable cautions in the instructions; The switch is intended to be switched automatically but has a manual option - and the slower acting manual switching will produce greater contact wear if actuated while energized -The switching relays are intended for 230V and work correctly from 195-250V - so they won't work correctly at 120V.The switch is not rated for "Break" operation or opening under load - the assumption is that the source has dropped, causing the need to actuate - probably what allows it to be so small -Given the specific, noted conditions, this probably can operate at 100A but it seems somewhat small for that - Since I'm using this at 40A 230V, I don't see any issues - I am using it as a transfer from utility to generator manually and return to utility automatically - so the live circuit transfer will be done by the relay at the higher speed and lower wear. The manual transfer is before energizing - making this perfect for my specific use.Instructions are better than average. The switch only offers DIN rail mounting but I planned on that anyway. For occasional use, this seems like a great, inexpensive option that should provide a useful service life.

Actually works as an ATS in both directions
Looks well made. Tested on the bench and this ATS works as expected. Previous ATS from another vendor was replaces and then returned because it only switched in 1 direction. This one works both ways, so I am happy so far. Hopefully it will hold up when put to actual use.
